Howdy folks, the above charter went out Saturday as planned. 20 on board, a mix of experienced, somewhat experienced and rookies on this trip.
Seas were a bit sporty, no too bad but bit more than August usually runs.
Went straight out 35-40 miles, were fishing by 9 am.
Hit a lot of shrimpboats 7-8 at least. Blackfins were spotty to say the least, couple picked up while getting biscuit, found a few more on a couple boats. Tons of bonito & shark, some really big, the rookies learned what a bonito can do. There were at least 4-5 cut-offs of tunas that had been hooked up by sharks.
Given the option to hit the boats in the area again again hoping to pull tuna up or doing some other fishing, choice was made to drift for kings which as unsuccessful then dropping over a rock formation. Ended the day catching fair amount of nice Beeliners, a Ling, a dorado, a nice King, and couple throw back AJ's as well as the 5 tuna and 160# Spinner shark. Plenty of line pulling at the shrimpers just not the desired fish species. Captain ran hard, crew did its job, fishermen did great on catching what was available.
Got a chance to fish with some old friends/customers again and meet some new ones. Everyone on the charter are welcome to fish with me again.
Looks like the total fundrasing was $420 for a great program that helps those that want to be a part of a program that truly helps kids in their school activities & development.
And don't care what anyone else says, my tuna was the biggest!
