Anybody big on replacing their lure trebles with inline single hooks? Good, bad, don't care. Any reason I would want to?

I’ve been tempted, but never actually tried it. Sometimes I will cut off the front hook on a treble if I’m in really thick brush.

I went through a phase and changed them out on almost everything. I put single hooks on spoons, spinners, crank baits, and topwater lures. I made the change when I had a big cobia straighten the hooks on a topwater lure. I felt the hook-up rate went down, and it definitely changed the action of some lures. If you hooked a big fish it was usually there to stay and if you were in schools of fish like white base or Spanish mackerel then single hooks are much faster to remove for another cast.

I’ve cut off the middle hook on a treble on some smaller jointed swimbaits if that one hook tends to get caught in the joint or tail.

I can see the utility of converting to single hooks around some thick, stringy saltwater vegetation; but have seen other simpler options in freshwater (switch to frog or texpose a soft swimbait).

When I go fishing in Alaska, there are some areas where you're only allowed to use single hooks, so I had to fish single-hook spinners, etc. Found that my catch rates were still quite good and no more getting jabbed by the spare barbs from a flopping fish.

Keeping my fingers puncture-free is nice, so yes, I've been going more to single hooks on lures.

I've done it before on smaller slabs that I used only for white bass fishing.

I am a big fan of Kastmasters when I fish for sandbass. I tried replacing the trebles with single hooks, but it seemed to affect the lure's action. I may try again with a different type single hook. I hate trebles because they are too hard to get out of the fishes mouth. Granted, you get a better hook-up rate with trebles, but I figure if I miss a sandbass or two, it ain't that big of a deal.
