I am in the process of switches about 30 reels from Shimano to Diawa.

I will be at Academy in Lewisville this AM and then Fun and Sun in Hurst today.

The complete list of gear is in the Trading Post. Delete if not allowed I just wanted make sure it had visibility.

I love Shimano and used mostly Metaniums and Chronarchs but my son started fishing with me a lot and he is much better with the Diawa SV reels so I am transitioning after 30+ years.

All the best!

I love my Daiwa reels but before you make a total change, you may want to ask around about availability of parts for Daiwa.

Southwestern Parts & Service in Dallas has stopped carrying Daiwa due to not being able to get parts.

Interesting. But, I will say, after 30+ years using Shimano I have never had to have a reel repaired. I usually sell them after 5-6 years and they still look great.

I recently sold some Chronarch 100B that were 17 years old or so and they still looked almost new and worked great. Thanks for the heads up!

Yes, took 11 months to get a part for one of my Daiwa reels....and 6 months for the other 2 Daiwa reels ... not a fan of theirs.....and that was pre-covid.

This..

SWP told me they have waited a year for parts and people are mad at them because Daiwa has a supply issue.

I’ve had a 8:1 Steez reel waiting on a few parts for over a year. It is what it is. Someday……..

Have any E series Chronarchs?

I love Daiwa Tatula's but those E Series are great for me.

NVM, saw your list.

It sounds to me that you should replace the kid.

There are times I'd agree with that!

especially on windy days with that SV reel! I love me some SVs! you seem fancy (IM messing with you since you buy the good stuff)....so dont sleep on the Tatulas SVs. Killer bang for your buck....zillions is better im sure....but im not sure how much better, and how worth it is for that difference. nothing against the higher end stuff because I'd 100% buy them if i could comfortably pay their costs....but it really is hard to talk myself into trying the zillions or steez (never tried zillion just the steez) because the Tatulas SV TWS are the tits! Not vouching for the whole tatula line...but the higher end of them are definitely solid and imo the best bang for your buck out there now.

The SV was the reel that really sold me on Diawa. I bought one for my son at the classic and was blown away. I have 4 SVs presently. They are awesome for skipping jigs and about everything everything except deep cranking when you need a lot of line,

I absolutely love the Tatula Elite rods too. For the money, they are a great deal. Put an SV on there and you are set!! Now, if I could only find the Bret Ehler 7' Finesse Rod (AGS guides) I'd be set!

I switch over to Daiwa back in the early 80’s, I’ve started when they did not have the auto-mag reels. Just push the little metal clip and let her fly.

Do they hold up as well as Shimano? I will never say anything bad about Shimano. I sold Chronarch 100Bs I bought for $269 in 2004 for $125 in 2021 and they still looked and worked great. They make a great product too.

I’ve not had any problems out of mine. I have had a few, very few maybe two or three in all my years that seemed to not hold up very well. Since….maybe 2000 forward, I’ve not had one that didn’t last me a good 5 or more years. I’ve got some I’m using now that are close to 10 years old.
