I've heard that it can be hard fishing out of aluminum boats when it's windy because they get blown around to much, so I was wondering if the newer aluminum boats are made better to withstand the wind.

Aluminum is all I've ever owned. I don't have an issue with it, then again I'm retired and if its too windy I won't launch. If its windy, I'll find a place to hide.

I don't have a problem with it in mine but like TopWater said if the wind is 15+ on Sam Rayburn I am not going unless I stay in the coves which is where I fish a lot anyway. cheers

I can also tell you that I would not be on Rayburn with a lot of wind even if I had a 20-21' glass boat! sarcastic

I don’t give a carp if it’s blowing 20+. I have an Ultrex. Problem solved. Suck it wind. That’s an old argument that spot lock TM’s have solved.

The issue I have with aluminum is not the ride or getting blown around. As many have pointed out the new spot lock TM's have solved most of that. Metal boats are still more tippy at rest than glass boats. This may not be an issue for you but it is noticeable in all the metal boats I've been in and I've fished from most of them.

I have an aluminum boat and absolutely love it. Know your limitations. That being said, there isn't much you can't do in one with a little caution and the fishability is no different than a glass boat.

I have a Tracker Pro 170 and I fish in High School tournaments. The wind causes a issue when loading because it just pushes the boat a lot, but other than that aluminum boats do a pretty solid job.

I fished JC Outdoors (all on Fork) this year with Old Hand FTT. He has an aluminum boat and we never had an issue. His is not tippy at all and spot lock holds it in place just fine. I was an aluminum hater until this year and after tons of research my new boat is a tin rig.

I agree with this -- had aluminum boats for over 20 years. As long as you don't do anything stupid, there are no problems fishing out of them.

I would love to know what boat it is. Not a hater at all. Every metal boat I've ever fished from was unstable at rest when two guys were walking around in it. I've fished from the biggest Xpress boats that weigh a considerable amount and still thought they were tippy

Ranger RT-188, a very stable fishing platform. Is it a glass rig running in 2-3 footers? No, it's not. That's it's only drawback. We got beat up pretty good 1 day in a JC derby. But other than that, it is just as good as my 20 foot Skeeter was.

Tin is OK, but there is nothing more exhilarating than the sound of fiberglass crackling against a jagged submerged stump while idling the flats on a calm foggy morning.

Goodtimes clap
