Is it strange for a grown man to pursue another grown man (fisherman) for his autograph or a picture? I just have no desire to chase another grown man down to get him to sign my shirt, or a hat or my moob. Is wanting to do this type of thing normal?

People are different and complex beings. Just because you have no emotional depth or aren't striped a certain way, don't paint the broad brush of humanity. Some people have social needs and this is a way to fulfill them!

Iā€™m a fanboy to the extent that I would love to spend a day on the water with a top professional. Autographs and pictures not my thing.

Was that Ghandi or Andy Warhol?

I think you should just do you and not worry if it's "ok", "normal", "strange" or anything else for someone else to want an autograph. I, personally, have never asked fpr one in my life and won't, but have received several signed pieces of memorbilia from friends. The coolest, hands down, being a signed baseball Ernie Banks (Mr. Cub) after I had just finished having dinner with he and his wife. Prior to being asked to have dinner with them by a friend of mine, I didn't even know who Ernie Banks was. That baseball now sits on my desk full time.

Let me also be clear, for little kids, you know younger guys, 10 year old boys who love fishing etc. I totally get it. No problem.

See, ^^^ I think that's very cool. That's different. That's not you pursuing someone for an autograph. I have autographed memorabilia that I have been given as well. A signed putter by Arnie. A signed Timmy Horton hat that a friend got signed. Etc. that's cool. But I would not pursue a grown man for his autograph.Just me, to each their own. cheers

I have been gifted a few signed pieces of memorabilia from some Boston sport athlete, I still have them. Shake a hand and shoot the breeze is good enough for me. I shot pool with a few members of the Red Sox one time in Arlington.

This is a downside of social media.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I dont consider myself a fanboy....but I sure did walk a little faster to my boat hoping Jimmy Houston would ask me for a ride to his YOLO launched boat. He did...and it was a cool 2-3 minutes i wont ever forget. It was an experience thing for me so I get it....not sure about chasing people down begging for autographs. But hell if youre at a tourney or expo and enjoying your time and dont mind waiting in line for an autograph....more power to you. Not something I'd do....but I get it.
