Its been 5 years since my brother and I have been able to fish together. So why not head up to the big Sandy area on the Lew? Never been to this spot before but its close to where my brother is staying and I have heard catfish are in the area. We selected an area just north of the ramp where there was some decent bank access and I could see some shad flipping. Also noted a 60+pound flathead dead and washed up on the shore... had to be a good omen. I had brought a dozen bluegill, caught that morning at the local pond. Lucky on top of that we were able to net 5-6 big gizzards from the ramp so bait was good to go. We started off catching several drum on the bluegill. Switched up to chunks of gizzard and started getting into some catfish. It was hot as hades, that spot has 0.0% protection from sun, bright intense sun straight into our faces from 7am to 1pm. BUT we caught some fish. My bro got his PB catfish. A blue cat likely around 8lbs that taped at 28 inches (so not a slot fish, dont judge lol). He was super stoked and wanted to keep this fish so we did. It was delicious and fed a bunch of people. We also kept a smaller blue and a channel so he could try the difference in size and species as he's not an angler really. Hes been away for a while. We let go several smaller blues that were all beat to hell. Wounds on their tails, bite marks and rubs on them, pectoral fins frayed and damaged. I have to guess these are males that were nesting? They would not be big enough to be sexually mature females from what I have read. These were 2-3lb fish. Blue cat nesting must be brutal?! Not a terrible bank fishing spot I guess. We caught fish, action was not fast but we steady enough to keep us engaged. I would go back... maybe get one of those soccer mom pop up tents to get us out of the sun a bit ha ha.

Have you tried fishing that spot at night? May be a good idea until this heats dies down.

Good stuff! I’m near the Allen area, looking to take my son cat fishing, just haven’t found a good spot. Lewisville is not too far from me!

I know several bank fishing spots where I see guys all the time. I don't know how successful they are though...
