I live in west Texas and don’t know anything about salt water fishing. I am hauling my boat down to Corpus in the near future for some aluminum work. I was thinking maybe fish a day or so while down there before dropping it off but I don’t have a clue on what to do or where to go. Any advice?

What type of boat is it? That will make a difference on where you can go.

Depending on the boat there it tons of great spots. Im normally going out of Port A, so if you want to go that way let me know.
Honestly for a first time keep it simple. If you have a boat that doesnt take a bunch of water check out east flats with popping corks. If its a larger boat check out the old structure near the ferry or even out along the jetties.

If you have a painted tube trailer, just remember when you dunk it in the brine, you'll be replacing it in a year.

Thanks. I have an aluminum trailer and the boat is a Majek xtreme. I have decades of experience boating and fishing but it has all been freshwater. I really want to try the salt but haven’t a clue what to do.

Ok, glad you're prepared.
Get a hooksetter map, general areas are easy to see.
This time of year, there is a area that is always productive, that's grass with potholes. Vast areas that fill the bill, look at King Ranch shoreline, estes, and others. Your extreme is not a super shallow flats hull, but as long as you stay away from the white sand, you should be ok.

Ok, so you have a good boat fort the coast, now how do you like to fish? Do you just want to catch something or are you a hard core artificial angler. There are many different options available.

I will have my wife and two kids with me. We just want to catch fish. Artificial lures and them don’t mix well. Heck even if we don’t catch fish I think we would enjoy the experience as it is new.

When I really want to catch fish, I use bait. Shrimp under a cork will get trout, ladyfish, and other species. Shrimp on the bottom will almost always get hit by something. Mullet will catch redfish and big trout. Live or fresh dead is best. If you catch a ladyfish, cut it in cross sections and throw that out on the bottom. Be careful with hardhead catfish and stingrays.

I would trailer over to Port Aransas. The boat ramp is next to the ferry landing. Go out of the harbor and north up the inttracoastal waterway. Start around the lighthouse and fish the ledge next to the intracoastal. Try different depths. If you don’t get bites in 30 minutes then more. If you want to run a little go up to mud island and try the flats around it. Watch for fish surfacing. A gold spoon is always a good thing to have ready to throw. This is just one option. There are many places to go.

Fishing can be really good at the jetty, but you may want to slowly work your way up to that unless it is really calm.

Good luck and let us know how you do. And be careful. Fishing at the coast can be really addictive.

Thanks guys. Just came down with the Rona so it looks like my trip will be delayed a little assuming I don’t croak.
