After Hurricane IKE hit down here and literally destroyed the Tx City Dike's bait camps, ramps, and the Lighted Pier, the beaches, and roadway......the City of Tx City started charging a fee to get on the Dike (weekends and holidays). $5.00 then and now $10.00 for "Out-of-Town" folks. If you lived in Texas City, you would NOT have to pay a fee. Residents had to go to City Hall and get a w/s sticker which allowed the vehicle to go on the Dike Free. My question is this. Do you think it's discriminatory that the City charge's out of town folks and not residents? Is it bc of Taxes?

If this is in the wrong section of the forum, feel free to move it.

I don't like it, but a lot of places do it. Las Vegas is real bad about charging two levels for a lot of activities.

From my understanding, the fee's are used for the Dike. As stated, it took a beating and needed major repairs. So with this said, I like the fee's. I live is Harris county so I have to pay as well but it's worth it because the Dike is a unique place.

Is it right? Questionable. In this case I don't see an issue. Lots of places do this though. We found a couple of places in Florida that has resident rates and out of town rates (waterpark, aquarium, etc).

You get out of it what you put into it!

city doing what state has done for years , residents pay one price , non residents pay another.

Surprised more cities don't do this.

If the residents have subsidized the construction and maintenance of the facility through taxes, HOA fees, surcharges, tax incentives, or other avenues, then nonresidents should certainly be carrying their share of the financial burden of maintenance. If the above is not the case, then the nonresidents subsidizing the facility need to assess whether the access fee is worth it to them. YMMV.
