Me, my dad, and my brother went to Lake Livingston on Saturday to fish in the New Caney Ag Booster white bass tournament. They had a great turnout with about 40 teams and they had great food and prizes. We fished from 6:30 - 10:30am and then we hit a stump and broke our prop. Luckily we were able to go slow for 3 miles and get back to the boat ramp in time to weigh in. We caught about 100 white bass and most were between 12-14 inches. We mostly fished on main lake points in 18-23 FOW and we caught all of our fish on Mepps spinners. We caught a few on #4 Aglia, but most were caught on the Chartreuse MAL Heavy. We would cast them out and let them sink to the bottom, then retrieve them about 4-6 cranks at medium speed and then press the button to let them drop again, then do it again. We did catch some right under the boat cranking them straight up from the bottom slow to medium speed. It was super hot out and barely any wind, but we had a great time and finished in a 3-way tie for first place with our 10 biggest fish weighing 12.4 lbs!

Great job guys , it was a hot one for sure. I enjoyed talking with your dad at the weigh in and hope to see y’all at Cedar Creek in October.

We caught a bunch of fish but had to move a lot and only had a few good ones.
It was a great tournament and turnout.

Lincoln, congratulations on the win on Livingston! That's two in a row, if I'm not mistaken.

Since you are using baitcasting gear and I use spinning gear, I have a couple questions for you:

1. Are you using a swivel and leader? Or, are you tying your lure directly to your mainline?

2. What are you using for your main line (mono, braid, fluorocarbon)?

3. If you are not using a swivel, have you experienced any issues with line twist?

All of my written guidance for MAL Lure use assumes the use of spinning gear, so your input will help me make solid suggestions for those using casting gear.

Thanks!

We tied the MAL lure directly to our line with no swivel and we normally don’t have any problem with line twists. We use 15# test monofilament for our main line with a 12” fluorocarbon leader (15#). We tie a double UNI knot instead of using a swivel and it works pretty good.
