The difference is if he was volunteered the information, or if he sought out the information. If he was volunteered the information, he was would be ok. He didn’t ask for the information. If he engaged into the conversation, leading it into additional information pertaining to the body of water, then he’d be in contradiction to the rules.

I was fishing with Josh Bertrand one time and an old lady was chatting it up pretty good with us as we were passing. She started telling us about some other rude young boys that fished past her dock the day before. She wanted us to catch fish and she started instructing us where to cast on her dock, the neighbors docks, the banks around her dock, etc. we were laughing and just had to tell her what a beautiful day it was, nice talk, blah blah blah…pull up the trolling motor and just leave. He did a great job of not engaging into the conversation about “fishing”, and everything she told us, we had to avoid.

We both placed high enough that day to get a polygraph and we both had to mention that conversation prior to the poly. We both passed the poly and collected our prizes.

I marshalled once for him and coincidentally started saying him some things about the body of water I knew and he in a round about way told me to shut up in a nice way, that guy is nice to a fault, good person.
