Has anybody had or know of somebody that can install a swing-away tongue on a tandem trailer with an A-Frame coupler? I've got a 95 Basscat Pantera II.

My trailer is designed where the two side rails are welded to the coupler so you can't use a typical swing-away kit from companies like Fulton. I emailed BassCat and they can fabricate a kit for $250 and you cut the trailer in between the bow stop and winch rail and the 2 side rails. The whole section swings to the right.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thanks, Mark

Here are the pics:

If that's $250 installed I'd write the check before they change their mind.

Hmm...lots of work...and the result might be too loose in the end.

Have you considered cutting it off about where the hole is for the old jack and installing a 4X4 or 3X3 thick walled square tubing piece of tongue and THEN installing the swing away part? Just a thought. I'd rather have one joint than two and there are other ways to beef it up if needed. ( if this option gives you the extra room you need )

to do it right you need to cut the tongue off at the old jack mount (behind the crosspiece), remove the 2x2 tube with the winch/bow stop, replace the 2x2 with a 3x3 heavy wall with at least 2 (3 is much better) cross braces (use channel that fits inside the outer channel, cut holes in it to pass the 3x3 thru), bring the 3x3 out to the desired length but no more than 2' past the frame, make sure that it is welded in at least 2 passes and use 6013 rod or a mig, the main thing is to take out any "knee" action, think of bending and down stresses ie when towing bouncing.
I have modified alot of trailers and the main thing in converting this style is the support vertically, 2x2 will not be strong enuff (check your tongue wght with a bath scale), and you need the long 3x3 for balancing the stresses.
ps, if you do it this way use some of the cut channel to "head" off the frame at the front (this also counts as one of the cross braces).

Apologies for bringing this thread back to life, but hopalong, do you have any pictures of a trailer with the A-frame that you’ve done this to? I’m looking at having a fabricator do this for me with my 300 series Ranger possibly. Thanks!

nebass97, Saleenivey and his brother did do a swing-away tongue on their BC trailer. If you get his email or PM he maybe able to send you some pics on how it was done. I know, cause they are my sons and have seen the trailer first-hand. It maybe doable on your trailer also.
Keep on crankin em in....

no pictures but it is a pretty straight forward modification. any good welding shop could do it for ya.

just replace the 2x2 with 3x3 hvy wall (1/4") find a swing away kit that welds on and let the shop do it all at once.

etrailer has the kits in all sizes and bolt on or weld on.
