Today I took my 12 year old daughter and 4 year old son to float the river in New Braunsfels. IT was the first for my son and maybe the 2nd or 3rd time for my daughter. Mom has been in the UK for the last 2 weeks visiting family so she could not make it. When we first started we went down a tube Shute which I had been promised was no big deal by the shuttle guy at Roys. (All staff VERY friendly). However the rock passage way was very narrow and the tube got stuck and flipped us over and my son got a bump on his head and was pretty shook up. Wish I had walked around it. After that pretty uneventful. Lots of people. Every campground full and had we got got behind a group playing this song over and over: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQImdfJVXykAt rock N river an ambulance had just picked a kid up that went off a rope swing and landed on a log. Saw 2 other ambulances in the 2 hours we were there. All in all a little dirtier and more crowded than I remember it from the 90's when I was in college and loved taking the trip. Daughter was not impressed and could not understand d the hype and all the strange smells. Both kids very happy to get off, my son clung to me for dear life the whole time. If you go I suggest getting there early to beat the crowds.

Comal is generally more family friendly.

Best time on the Guadalupe River is a weekday after Labor Day. The river has been packed since Memorial Day. Also motel room rates are super high in New Braunfels.

The last time I went, I was with three of my boys who were about 16-13 at the time. We had a bachelorette party floating down in front of us. Probably 20 hotties drinking some sort of mixture out of gallon milk jugs. About 3/4 of the way down, they were just getting primed up to make the trip exciting. That part of the river, became became wider and had a nice little Eddy in it so they all grouped up and started standing on their tubes and got to dancing and jiggling around. It was just about to get GREAT when a Karen and her mate loudly exclaimed that they didn’t want to be a part of this and proceeded to leave. During their departure they pushed my youngest son’s tube back into the current and he could not make it back into the slack water. I was in a conundrum. Get my other pubescent boys back into the current to go retrieve David, or allow them to experience the show that was on the verge of happening within minutes. I played out the different scenarios in my head and could not come to an ending of the story that ended well later if my kids ratted me out to their mother. So…, I bumped my kid’s tubes back into the flowing river to go keep freaking David from floating past the pick up point. I still hate that woman.

I am here right now in seguin for my daughters softball tournament Not on the river obviously but as a north Texas boy my whole life I stand by the fact that anything south of Austin is Mexico All the trees down here are less than 10’ tall and won’t nothing grow down here what don’t have stickers.

So the tournament is at Huber? You do realize that has been a corn and milo farm for about 100 years, right? And that trees aren’t easy to farm around? I won’t argue the point about south of austin being Mexico, but I live in clean Seguin, and I have a half dozen trees in my yard that are north of 60’ tall. Also, you can both be in Seguin AND on the river. The Guad flows right through town.
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

We used to float it during the week back in the 90`s quite a bit. You had the river almost to yourself. It was great and enjoyed it a lot.
Then we made the mistake of taking the camper down there and stayed thru the weekend one time. We drove to Austin to watch the cowboys @ training camp on Friday morning and when we returned to our camper that afternoon it looked like all of San Antonio had move in on the river with tents and campers everywhere. It was a zoo like atmosphere. Our campground even had a security person who patrolled the campgrounds. I never seen so many people on the river the next day in all of my life. Glad I only had to put it with all those people for 1 day. Never went on a weekend again. EVER!

I handled security at Abbots, Mt. Breeze, and Little Ponderosa years back. Yes there are many of untold stories you can tell? Side Note: Also handled security at the Canyon Lake Dam after 911.
