Based largely on constructive input from TFF participants, most of whom are here on the "Whites-Hybrids-Striper" forum, I've again worked with Mepps to make another tweak to the MAL Heavy Lure.
For those of you exclusively pursuing hybrid and stripers, I now have a version of the MAL Heavy (7/8 oz.) with a more stout #2 treble hook, versus the standard #4 treble hook now found on the MAL Original and the MAL Heavy.
At least two of you have thrown these to redfish and done extremely well -- an excellent test for any treble hook!
BIG NOTE: this treble is NOT for white bass. The gap is generally too large for white bass. They will still try to hit it, and occasionally they'll still be successful, but, the larger, stronger VMC hook is intended for anglers targeting hybrid and stripers.
There is no cost difference ... just trying to make the lure as useful as possible to as many as possible. These are available in white and in chartreuse.
If you go to the
www.WhiteBassTools.com website and click on the MAL Heavy, you will see new options to select the standard #4 treble or the upsized #2 treble.
I really appreciate the handful of you guides and recreational anglers who used the prototypes of these and put them through their paces.
You asked for it ... you got it! Thanks for the suggestions!! Please keep them coming.
