Based largely on constructive input from TFF participants, most of whom are here on the "Whites-Hybrids-Striper" forum, I've again worked with Mepps to make another tweak to the MAL Heavy Lure.

For those of you exclusively pursuing hybrid and stripers, I now have a version of the MAL Heavy (7/8 oz.) with a more stout #2 treble hook, versus the standard #4 treble hook now found on the MAL Original and the MAL Heavy.

At least two of you have thrown these to redfish and done extremely well -- an excellent test for any treble hook!

BIG NOTE:
this treble is NOT for white bass. The gap is generally too large for white bass. They will still try to hit it, and occasionally they'll still be successful, but, the larger, stronger VMC hook is intended for anglers targeting hybrid and stripers.

There is no cost difference ... just trying to make the lure as useful as possible to as many as possible. These are available in white and in chartreuse.

If you go to the www.WhiteBassTools.com website and click on the MAL Heavy, you will see new options to select the standard #4 treble or the upsized #2 treble.

I really appreciate the handful of you guides and recreational anglers who used the prototypes of these and put them through their paces.

You asked for it ... you got it! Thanks for the suggestions!! Please keep them coming.

New hooks are here: #2 Trebles

I used the Heavy Mal on a local lake for White Bass and Yellow Bass. It was unbelievable - 13 straight drops with a white bass.

Getting good results on white bass! Stripers are a different story for me. Let me know if anyone has had luck with MAL on stripers. I tried them on some schooling fish at Texoma but no takers. Later tested vertically using LS and stripers seemed to get spooked.

I have used this lure a lot since purchasing them. It is an amazing white bass lure. I've yet to catch a hybrid with it yet.

Same. I have been watching LS. From my experience, hybrids get spooked run away at Tawakoni and stripers act same at Texoma. Maybe time of year.

I spoke to Charles Howard of HookSet Guide service and he said he caught two 8 pounders and a nine using the lures on Lake Belton. It is a matter of being in the right place when the fish are feeding.

Me and my son Lincoln caught some nice Hybrids on Richland Chambers with the MAL heavy last month and a buddy of mine and his boys caught 15 hybrids one morning on Cedar Creek last month with the MAL heavy. No one else around him was catching anything. I’m a believer!

We were fishing the Venice Louisiana area on our 1st DIY trip a couple weeks ago, it was a slow day and I tied one on just for grins.. Well we were all smiles while we hooked up to big reds all morning while a lot of boats just looked on.. We put 14-15 big reds in the boat on your lures. Oh, I have caught whites and hybrids on them as well...

My wife's fish was 43.5"

I like these and the fact that people have had good results and that sold me. I bet you can work it just like a Mepps and do well.
