Hi, just moved to Killeen. I have a bass boat but it is having maintenance done right now. So currently I will be fishing out of a small 2 man boat. I do have a trolling motor but running the lake is not an option. Mainly looking for areas that would give me some protection from wind. I am looking at catching largemouth, small mouth, white bass, or hybrids. I have looked at another post about lake belton and took some information from that. Any info on either lake would be greatly appreciated.

I'd probably recommend these ramps to launch from where you wouldn't have to venture too far from.
Stillhouse Union Grove, River's Bend, and Stillhouse marina
Belton Westcliff, Frank's Marina, Arrowhead, and Roger's. You can also try BLORA on Ft. Hood.

My nephew lives in that area, fishes out of a kayak, and has a great fishing page on Facebook. Check it out....Kyle Schroeder

Stillhouse, launch at Rivers Bend, go under bridge and fish river area. Good protection from wind.

Thank all for the comments and help. Went to lake belton early this morning, started out at temple park but no fish and was fighting the wind. Loaded two man up and went to belton/lake view boat ramp and fished that area down all the way to the dam. No bites, did not catch a fish. I threw various colors of crankbaits ranging from 3-15feet. I threw Carolina rig, Texas rig, and wacky worm. Fished topwater and rattle traps too. I fished from 630am-noon. I did talk to 5 other boats that also stated that they did not do well either, I guess just a rough day. Going to try stillhouse tomorrow morning.

Yep, that sounds like Belton. It's come down 7 feet from last month and it's still 2 feet over full pool. The water is also dirtier than it normally should be. The temps have been mild this Summer but late afternoon into sunset will probably yield you some better results. If you have running lights you could go to midnight or later. Take the time to seek out his information, Don Harper contributed several articles on TFF that will really alter your approach to bass fishing, especially if you're one of those "bank beater" types. This is the link to Article 32 covering suspended bass as an example. Article 32 - Suspended BassHe also produces a contour chip for your graph, granted you probably don't have a graph on the two-man, but it will give you some ideas. More importantly than a chip just loaded just waypoints, he will break down the rationale of what to throw, how to throw it, and why that area is good. Mr. Don Harper Contour Chips
