Fellas,
Just a quick question about Rayburn... My parents rented a cabin for the next weekend (30-1) in the cove where cassel boykin ramp is. My question is (I've never spent much of anytime in this area of the lake) how is the water there in regards to stumps... Is this a good place to tube with the kids?

Obviously proceed at your own risk, but it's still 4' high and you will be fine if you launch at Cassel and stay back in the area where your house is. The only wood you could run into back in there would be floating or lodged. There will definitely be some fishermen in there and boat traffic, but most of the fishermen will be beating the banks.

From the boat ramp back around to the 147 bridge is pretty void of stumps and the cove just south of the new Cassels boykin ramp is what the locals call ski cove. The area where your house is should be ok at current lake levels but at normal pool or lower there are a ton of stumps.

capt. bryan is correct the large cove directly to the left of cassel boykin is known as ski cove and i will promise there has not been any stumps in there ever. the only thing you will hit is a floater. 40 years ago i spent many hours skiing tubing barefooting or any other thing we could come up with in that cove and as bryan said the right side of the lake all the way to Calhoon point is clear except floaters. do not water ski past that cove though unless you want to star on an episode of what sent me to the E.R.

Yeah, I didn't know what the cove is called so I just put the name of the street where the house is. I have never been north of 147 except to launch at cassel and ran straight to the bridge so its new waters to me.... Just didn't want to sling the kids into a stump.

I own a 24 ' 6" center console, but they won't be tubing behind my boat... LOL They will be behind a smaller bass boat, my boat will be on the bank until we go cruise the lake... Don't worry, we are passionate fisherman and not going to cause trouble for the fisher man.

In other words, don't tube in that area cause if someone falls off the tube..... yikes
