anyone on this forum use a Diablo Paddlesport kayak?

I am looking hard at them and thinking I may buy my first yak for fly fishing. I know about the Jackson Mayfly, but thinking I want the lighter option the Diablo offers.

I appreciate any information you have on one.

Also, if you fly fish, what yak are you using and would you recommend it?

I have a Diablo Amigo that I only fly fish from and I absolutely love it. Very stable. It's possible and easy to stand up and cast in it, but I usually find casting from the Larry chair works fine for most situations.

It increases the weight which may be a concern, but adding the marine mat is a really nice addition. Adds comfort and reduces noise.

A skeg is a good addition too.

Diablo Amigo is an amazing yak. Can't go wrong with it. I owned one for a year and regret selling it. Super stable, shallow draft made it ease to fish in creeks or just shallow areas.

Only con I had was trying to paddle in open water on windy days. It was a little difficult to control even with a skeg.

My wife and I like ours but I'll add not very maneuverable in rapids or tight turns.

Yeah, I don't think there is a perfect model or kayak. I envision myself fishing Central TX and mostly streams in TX/OK for smallies. Maybe even Ark.

you might look at stand up paddle boards , I moved from a kayak to paddle board to fly fish and just sit on a cooler

I have an amigo and i think it is hands down the best all around self propelled fishing kayak. I fly fish on mine as well and the open deck is perfect for that application. You wont break any speed records on open water but it will still get you around. Where the diablo excels is on the rivers. Its perfect for coasting down stream. The skeg is a must IMO. And if you do any saltwater fishing then you’ll want to upgrade to the aluminum larry chair. FYI, vibe also sells the larry chair and with a coupon it might be the best price out there.

What kind of paddle board do have for fly fishing if you don’t t mind me asking? Ive been looking at inflatables to take on trips.

Thanks! I just bought a used Chupacabra...I think this will be a great tool. I see myself using it to target smallies and maybe some carp on a few lakes. Mostly smallies and guads I think. Lots to learn. and yeah, I have a skeg...
