What's the best way to replace this valve? Hoping not to touch the tee.

hard to tell with the dirt but it looks to be threaded. Dig under it more and clean off around valve connections for a better look.

I’ll give you my 2 cents, only buy a slip/smooth valve. ( not threaded).
Dig around the pipe to give more room and a place for water.
Before you cut that old pipe, be sure to clean and soften it with primer. ( keeps from shattering old pipe)
Place new valve with arrow matching same direction as old)

Hops placement will work fine

Hard to tell, but it looks like somebody already bypassed a split with the 4 90 trick. I'd dig a bigger hole and get the valve back in line. Dual compression couplers could be your friend in this situation. Some folks don't like them but I've never had a problem with them as long as they're left alone once installed.

Hop has a idea but it wont work. the old valve could close and stay closed
cut the long pipe on the left
. cut the pipe behind the fitting behind the valve
. clean a big enough hole to un screw the old valve
get a 1 inch male adapater
a 1 inch slip threaded collar
1 1 valve
2 1 inch 90
2 1 inch slip collars
call me if you run into issue

Why not just replace the valve innards? 4 screws and you’re done. I did that to one of mine last year. Works great.

That was the original plan, but these valves are super old and they don't make them anymore.

I just had my main water line break last week where it transitioned from PVC ( underground ) to copper going into the house . I don't have any soldering skills ( at least that I would trust myself to do ).
I called a guy and he came out and replaced the PVC to schedule 80 thickness and then using a really cool tool from Milwaukee to press the new copper connections together .
This plumber was telling me that these new pressfit copper T's and Elbows are 500% more expensive --- but it keeps them from having to dig up everything .

I would do what hop said and just open the old valve and take all the guts out and disconnect it.
