Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking two groups of friends out fishing on Tawakoni - one in the morning and a second in the afternoon. In spite of the on and off rain, we had a great time catching mostly big white bass - ending up with 139 fish (127 whites, a drum, a cat, and 10 yellow bass) in the morning and 231 fish (210 whites, 19 yellow bass, a 20 inch hybrid, and a short hybrid) in the afternoon. The morning group consisted of a longtime friend and peer of my daughter's (David) and his daughter Corinne. I had taken David out fishing on Lake Livingston in the mid-1980's when he was a high school student. Now he is pastor at a church near Lake Tawakoni. Yesterday we tried to start fishing about 6:45 AM but quickly had to run under the big bridge for cover from a bad-looking cloud. After waiting out the rain, we went to Cloud Point and found fish schooling in 6 fow. We caught them for about an hour before they stopped. We caught 68 there. Then we went to Greenville Pump Station and found a bunch down in 13 to 15 fow. We caught the rest of our fish there - almost non-stop. A big rain cloud forced us back to bridge cover about 11:20 AM. We waited until noon and radar showed another 2 hours before it would clear out. So, David and Corrine decided to call it a day and I dropped them off back at the ramp.

I grabbed lunch at a nearby cafe and then met the 2nd party (fishing buddies Lenahorse and etu) at the ramp about 1:20 PM. We fished Greenville Pump Station, Cloud Point, Sun Point, Sun Point South, and Wolf Creek Humps in succession until 7:30 PM and caught good white bass at every spot. They kept 14.5-inch (estimate) and bigger fish, and I think the final count of those was 48, including the 20-inch hybrid (see pic).

David, Corrine and I used #4 silver Mepps Aglias. Ed and I used those as well. Larry used the Mepps for some, slabs for some, and tail-spinners (I think) for some. At each spot we had to test the speed of retrieve for the Mepps. Some wanted it slow off the bottom; others wanted it medium to medium-fast. Larry, Ed, and I also got into surface action for a short time. They tried topwater popping baits, but retrieving a Mepps #4 the instant it hit the water worked better.

Overall, in spite of the rain, yesterday was one of the best fishing days ever for me - the company and the results. Here are some pics:

Yesterday even with the rain and all was one of my most enjoyable trips here in a very long time plus the added pleasure of best friends and lots of catching fishes.
I think count was 44 kept and boat of over 220 totals the 200+ trips dont come often.

Wow Dennis what a great gift you give.
Most of us slow down when we retire, you seem to be speeding up!

Todd: At the last stop Larry switched to a Mepps, dropped it straight down, and caught the only legal hybrid of the day. I think Ed nailed it when he quipped that Larry likes the challenge of catching a fish with a slab, tail-spinner, or something else other than a Mepps.

Steve: Thanks for the kind words. The wisest man ever, Soloman, said life is a gift from God. I try to remember to thank God for that every day and to be a good steward of my life including body, mind, and soul. So, I try to do what He wants me to - love Him, love my neighbor, and live by the Golden Rule.

Great trip Dennis! You missed a good one Todd. Light winds and drizzle made for cool catching all afternoon.
