Anyone fish Pinkston in the summer? Is it worth a trip?

Yes. Largemouths school up and chase shad out in the main lake. Also typical early and late patterns on top waters, frogs, wacky worms, etc. Dont forget night time either.

We went on July 4th. We really didn't see any schooling bass but we did catch several fish on lipless cranks on the east end.

Be safe,

My first time to Pinkston was this passed May. It is one of my favorite lakes in Texas.

First day there caught one at 8 pounds (my PB, i Know....... tiny lol) and a good number of fish in the 1-4 pound range. Spent almost a week on this week.

I can say this, not sure if this stands true. I threw every east Texas bait that any level minded bass fisherman would throw... Texas rig, rattle trap, shallow crank, spinnerbait, jig, swim jig, chatterbait.... I couldn't buy a single bite on any of those my entire time up there.

The ONLY bait I caught all my fish on was a diamond dust topwater popper and a frog. The big fish was on the popper. That lake was all topwater for me from the [censored] crack of dawn, all the way to pitch black. It seems to be pretty common, as I ran into Center, TX's finest (a local at the lake named Jason) that's been fishing there since it was impounded and he told me you can't beat a topwater on the lake. When you go, look for a black Dodge Ram with a ragged out aluminum boat with a 60hp Merc. Dude's name is Jason. He will talk your ear off, but such a great guy with lots of info.

I drove by the lake last weekend and the bass were schooling like CRAZY at the dam. All over the place.

Not sure what kind of boat you're bringing or if you're bringing a boat.. If you are, go to the dam ramp, and cross your fingers you don't have to try to pass someone with another boat going down the dirt road to the ramp. You will see what I mean. The ramp itself is probably the worse one you'll ever use, but it works without issue. I got my 22' center console in and out there countless times without incident. The biggest [censored] pucker is the road getting to the ramp
