That knot is called an improved clinch knot. If you pass it through the loop near the hook once and cinch it down, it’s a simple clinch knot.

Rather than twist the line though, I hold the eye of hook and both lines between thumb and index finger while wrapping the tag end around the main line about 5 to 8 turns then pass tag end back through and cinch it down. It’s the very first fishing knot I ever learned.

After discovering the Palomar knot, i started using it on hooks because it retains almost all of the rated strength of the line and it is super simple to tie.

for minnows I use a drop shot type rig. I use about a one inch loop knot with a #2 light wire hook.
I tie a 1/4 to 3/8 oz weight 12" to 18" below the hook. The loop knot lets the minnow swim on the hook, and the weight
tells me when I touch the brush or the bottom. Using your rig makes the bite too hard to feel, especially
when the fish hit up on the bait. jim
