Apollo 11 was launched on July 16, 1969. The spacecraft — carrying astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edward "Buzz" Aldrin — blasted off into space from Cape Kennedy, Fla., to become the first space mission to put people on the Moon.
