Yesterday a friend of mine was laid to rest, during the service the casket was closed, however when they did the last walk thru, the flowers were removed and the casket was open..This didn't look anything like the man I knew, to me its rude, disrespectful to do this.Ive been to hundreds of funerals, but this in my opinion was unfair to the deceased, now I sit here and remember what I last saw,Not how i remembered my friend. Rude and disrespectful.

My grand father had an open casket funeral when I was 12, in 1981. I still remember my aunt looking at me and saying,"doesn't he look good" and I answered no he looks dead.
100% close the damn caskets!

I’m sorry for your loss. I’m not in favor of open casket funerals but have been to several

Exact reason why I want to be cremated, no viewing, nothing. I do not want anyone looking at my ugly [censored] skeleton of a man that I once used to be, especially my kids. They know...

The older generations have this thing about one last look. When my Dad passed, my Grandmother (his Mother) insisted we open the casket at the gravesite as it was closed during the services. All you will see it mine is a pile of ashes if you wish for a look see.
He is truly a sick individual.

Most deceased do not look how we'd like to envision they'd look. I'm going to be cremated and want large pictures of my at the memorial. Those will be of me at about 25, with hair and weighing 175 pounds. Remember me like that!
Family is everything! Life is precious. We don’t have forever. We have now. This moment. We can choose to love our lives now.

Funerals aren’t for the deceased.
Sorry for your loss.
Courage - knowing something will hurt and still doing it. Stupidity - knowing something will hurt and still doing it. That’s why life is difficult

I've seen it both ways... it's usually up to the family, unless the dearly departed pre-planned the service. Some funeral directors/morticians/embalmers do great work, others not so much.
I had one friend that passed in 2008. He had an inoperable brain tumor and had been on steroids. It had been a couple of months since I had last seen him before he passed. I did not recognize the man in the casket... however, my grandpa died in 1995 and looked just like he did the last time I saw him. Just depends on who is handling the body.
I want a New Orleans style funeral, but also people tearing at their clothes and gnashing their teeth mourning me.
