Anybody know if this is an okay ramp to launch at and safe to leave vehicle/trailer? I decided to fish the north end today (did decent with a 5-9 and some other small ones)…but I put in at lone star marina and won’t do that again. $10 to launch and barely any room to maneuver the trailer added to the fun.
Any other ideas are welcome, but I’m not interested in launching at any sketchy areas. Normally I fish the south end and put in at log cabin…but the run is like being in a blender even on calm days due to the wake boats and seas walls around the whole place.
Thanks guys

Don't recall the highway number but the one that goes from Gun Barrell City to 7 points has a big public ramp at one of the bridges - since it right on the highway would think maybe fairly safe but haven't used it in a long time.

That's the 334 Bridge, the ramp you are thinking about is the Tom Finley Park ramp. There's also a ramp right at the edge of Gun Barrel where the Big Chief motel used to be. I haven't launched at that one because the ramp looks kind of steep. Tom Finley ramp is (or was) $3.00, Big Chief is free

IMO the safest ramp on the lake is log cabin. Every other ramp can be sketchy IMO. Just the nature of the surrounding cities.

It's not even the mileage from Log Cabin up to the more northern parts of the lake that I mind...it's the ride. And I know someone is gonna get on here and say "Well _______ boats ride the best so that's your problem right there" yeah ok....I won't mention what I run but it does just fine everywhere else It's the dang wake boats coupled with the bulk heads that knock you around everywhere you go. And for a 6-7 mile run each way, that's a beating... In any case, I do appreciate your input. On my way out of town today I did check the Causeway Marina...it looked okay but the ramp was pretty steep and did not look overly friendly to a person launching by themselves (which is me 95% of the time). Not much to tie up to - but could be wrong - and lots of rock and walls either side of the ramp it seemed. I also looked at the public ramp just as I was passing over the bridge. I liked the big parking lot and ramp looked okay, but couldn't see the docking situation. Thanks again for the help guys...the only thing I know for certain is I won't be launching at a place that charges $10, is super tight making backing a trailer a to do, and also lose sight of your boat completely because you have to go park around the other side of a condo and walk back around it AND the marina to get to where you tied up - which is all the mess I dealt with at Lone Star Marina.

I launched at Log Cabin this morning. City workers constantly coming around.
As for the fishing, couldn't sniff a bite. Hope to find a lost bass tomorrow. Water temp was 83-86 and bait was scattered. Tried docks, rocks, and brush.

Is the Caney City ramp decent? Yes. Ramp is wide enough to launch 2 boats side-by-side. Two courtesy docks, plus fairly easy to beach your boat. Good-sized parking lot. And it's free. Just make sure you lock your truck and don't leave anything of any value out in plain sight, especially if anyone sketchy-looking is around. I have never had any problems there, but I guess there's always a first time for anything.
