I have trip planned for the first week of August in Rockport. I will be bringing my boat down with me it's a 24' bay boat. I usually go down to Pensacola once a year but decided to stay a little closer this year. I primarily striper fish and don't have a lot of experience with salt water fishing. I would love to catch some redfish as I still have never landed one yet. What would be a good area to look in? I have been reading a little about Redfish bay is it a good area this time of year? Or should I head up into Aransas Bay and look there. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I’ll be in Rockport the 24th - 31st. I’ll let you know how we do. I have no experience with redfish yet. We usually do pretty good in San Antonio and Carlos bays. But that was before the freeze.

If interested I run Navigational Trips from Rockport to Port O'Connor. We take your boat and show you how to navigate to areas safely, mark your GPS with any hazards, and have fishing discussions accordingly to the areas you want to learn. For more info, check out our website, or give me a call. thanks

Somewhat tough time of the year to fish. I would free line either Croaker or Piggies for trout and for reds cut mullet on a Carolina rig. Fish relocate a lot in the area. Trick is finding areas that have fish. Freeze has made it somewhat more difficult.
If the weather allows you to get to the surf that’s always a solid strategy. Wind blows a bunch on the south Texas Coast.
If you are staying a few days a good guide the first day to give you a general idea would be a good idea.

Lanny Phillips is a very good guide for all ages and experience levels. His number is 432-349-0353. I have had very good luck with him in the heat of the summer. Good Luck.

Not sure where you're staying/launching but from Rockport head east across Aransas Bay and fish the edges of San Jose Island. Summer time the redfish bite dies off some after mid to late morning so early start is key IMO unless you want to fish the afternoon/evening bite. Concentrate on areas where water is coming out of the back lakes. Samples shown in the photo. Don't go into those back lakes unless you have a boat that'll run in a foot of water or less. Most of those back lakes are shallow. Watch the winds. If they're blowing 20 mph or more I wouldn't try to cut straight across Aransas Bay. 3-4 foot rollers are common with winds over 20 mph. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/07/full-111612-105073-4.jpg)
You get out of it what you put into it!
