Obviously fall bass fishing can be amazing. At what point do you start to consider a fall pattern? Are you looking for the water temp to drop to a certain number? Or is more about finding the shad? If you were going to fish a tournament in September/October without being able to practice, how would you start? Would you still be on a late summer pattern?

Planning in advance for a tournament you can't pre-fish. Fish the conditions. Have a plan 1...2...3...N

Fall fishing is terribly tough most of the time.

Couldn't hardly tell you since I'm in the treestand but did try to do some November bass fishing on Texoma and like Douglas J said it was terribly tough compared to the other 3 season I've fished there.

I was just curious of anyone had a certain thing they look for that gave them the impression that "fall fishing" was on? Like water temp or something. What is the first indicator?

Typically don’t see the traditional BASS magazine fall patterns (Shad moving in mass to creeks) until mid November. Some years, we get warm weather all the way to December.

I'm sure there's a window of "fall fishing" in Texas, but I don't usually see it. Seems like we go from summer patterns, then the fish spread out and are challenging to find for a short period of time (I guess that's our fall pattern?), then they go into winter patterns.

I have always enjoyed fall fishing. Especially after the first real cool front. Love the way they school up on Fork and also love fall fishing here on Bridgeport. Best time of the year to catch smallmouth out here too.
I grab a squarebill or spinnerbait and get to covering water.

Best time of the year to go is mid November to mid December. The boat traffic is gone as are most of the fisherman. No need to get up early as the afternoons are usually the best. The fish are moving so you need to be too. Docks around the mouth of creeks will hold fish all day long.

I like it when the air and water temps get into the high 50's - low 60's.

I've caught a lot of my big fish Nov-Jan
