I need to go run my boat, test out some new equipment, and of course, wet a hook.

I plan to go to Somerville later this week. I have never been out on this lake and wondered if anyone is aware of any boat ramp closures. I spoke to Corp of Engineers and they said Rocky Creek ramp is closed. Haven’t decided where to launch just yet. I am thinking Yegua Creek or Lake Somerville Marina, but am definitely open to suggestions.

I got a hook-n-line map and have read lots of forums. I see some good starting places for crappie around the Yegua Creek Park. However, I am not too proud to take suggestions. 🙂 Not asking for coordinates, just general areas to fish for crappie this time of year. Any help is appreciated.

Tight lines,
Hogpaw

We fish Sommerville a lot but start at Big Creek. Just follow the crowd like anything else near Houston

If you have a graph there are brush piles all around the point by big creek’s ramps. Look in 14-18 FOW and you’ll find the piles which are holding lots of small fish right now but a few keepers.

Same thing at Yegua. When you leave the launch and head into the main lake there are brush piles all around the big point on your left. They will be in 20+ FOW right now. Also lots of piles directly in front of the campsites at Yegua which hold lots of fish.

If you don’t have a graph to see them buy some cheap spoons or slabs and cast em out in said areas. Will definitely find them that way!

I went out yesterday. Stared at Lake Somerville Marina. Fished the big island to the left - no luck. Fished Yegua a little with no luck. Had to dodge 6-8 white bass boats trolling. Ran out to Deer Island and caught a bass. Saw lots of small ones at all three areas.

Fished fro 9:00 to 1:30. Was playing with a new trolling motor most of the time. Wouldn’t bite a minnow or a jig. Didn’t see anyone else catch either. Fishing was not the primary objective. It was my first trip out with the new Xi5 and I spent most of the time learning. I guess since we didn’t bring home any crappie, you could say I spent the whole time learning. 🙂
