Lots of good setups above. I like 50lb braid to 1oz egg sinker to bead to swivel to 3-5ft of extremely bouyant silicone infused 12lb Pline CXX.
One key is to use a smaller (3/0) finer wire hook (stay away from thicker gauge superline hooks for crig) . Because the hook is not directly leveraged by the main line (swivel) you benefit from a thinner wire hook to more easily penetrate the palate of the bass.

My dad and dragmaster fished C-rigs for 20 years and it's still my go-to.
I use a lead sinker, I don't think the tungsten v. lead on a c-rig makes a difference. I use two plastic beads between the sinker (1 oz or 3/4) and then a swivel then 15 or 20 lb leader, usually big game to a 4/0 hook. To the dismay of my fishing buddy, I throw a big leader - usually 4', sometimes longer.
I say experiment with it and see what you like to do.

I fish with multiple rigs in the boat. This is usually 6. - Weightless with just the large swivel that will not go through the first eye on the rod. 20 floro. main line - 17 floro leader 12 inches. Wide gap light wire hook 3.0 for fishing senkos, flukes and trick worms. I also use this same set up for a Skinny 7" Senko rigged Wacky. Rigs are used in 2 to 8 ft. of water. - 1/8 oz pegged Tungsten Same leader set up for fishing the shallows. - 3/8 oz pegged Tungsten 20 floro main line - 17 mono. 24 inches to help the baits float. Wide Gap light wire 3.0 hook for fishing Baby Brush Hogs in 5 to 15 ft. - 1/2 oz pegged Tungsten 20 floro to 20 floro Short rig to 12 inches for slow rolling swim baits and Big Brush Hogs through the brush and around rocky points. 3.0 heavy line hook. Cast to targets and keep it slow rolling just bumping the tops of grass and rocks. - 1/2 oz pegged Tungsten 20 Floro to 17 Mono to help the bait float. Leader is 3 ft.. for fishing around deep grass and the last brush on the 20 ft. contour lines. Baits are 10" worm and Big Brush Hog. - 3/4 oz lead weight Pegged 50 lb braid to 20 lb Mono to help the bait float. Leader is 3.5 feet. This is for dragging the lip of river channels and creek channels on Controlled Drifts. Braid helps on the long line hook set.
Main Secret is to fish on slack line: - Keep the bait in the strike zone as long as possible. - I like fishing from the back of the boat. - Once the rig is cast out, strip line and allow for the boat moving forward. - Let it set for about 15 seconds before taking up slack to feel for pressure. - Move the bait about 3 ft. and strip line again. Continue until you are forced to reel in and make another cast. - Many times the man up front will be following the 20 ft. contour and turn into a gouge or around a point which will allow you to take up slack line. - The rig is continuously changing depths; as the man up front turns in around points, which will bring your C-Rig up and over the tip of the point. - Stay glued to the depth finder to see protrusions, gouges and bushes that would cause you to reel in and cast to them. From the back of the boat run the Depth Finder on split screen with Side Imaging and Down Scan for the depth; to see directly under the boat. - I do not like dragging any shallower than the 20 ft. contour. Shallower than that requires casting the C-Rig to specific targets that are not under the boat where the fish may be disturbed and the bait fish spooked. - Always be looking toward deep water for Irregular Features to cast out to and work the C-Rig UP-HILL. Many huge Bass have been fooled by fishing up-hill. Donald do you find you end with gut hooked fish with the slack line approach or is it really a non-issue?

Heavy weight and big game is like trying to fish with a rubber band. Love me some big game but not as a main line for C-rig, way too much stretch. 17 lb floro mainline, plastic bead, 1 oz egg sinker to a 15 lb big game leader, 3/0 hook, Fluke or brush hog, set the hook! Glass beads crack and F up your line.

Use larger sized line on reel than leader. Vary leader length, use the lightest weight you can.I used one a lot when I lived in Ga. My PB came on a Carolina rig. Experiment with lures. I've used a carolina rig with a bango lure on it to catch'em on Calaveras'. I've caught a huge number of big bass on one. Thats a fish over 6 pounds to me. I caught my PB on Eufaula in Alabama in 1973. I was stationed at Fort Benning and I became very popular in the fishing community. It weighted 13.4 at the rod and gun club on Benning The lure was a 6" blk grape Creme Scoundrel. LOL, <y line was 10 lb Royal Bonnyle . Forgive me I haven't seen any in over 40 yrs and can't remember the spelling. The best info I can give is go to some super clear water and see how it feels when coming over different things. Logs, rocks, grass. Carolina rigs are unlike Texas rigged worms. Bass will get in a tug of war with a Carolina rig whereas they'll spit a Texas rig when they feel resistance.

1) Braid main line, Flouror leader. When you need to break off, most of the time it is only the leader and you get to keep the weight and beads. I use a 1oz lead bullet weight(comes through the junk), two clear glass beads (fish will hit the red ones and not your bait), and a swivel. Long leader, at least 4 ft. (learned this from Dean Strohman) 3/0 and a fry style bait.
2) 20 lb flouro, weight, beads, 2 carolina keepers, 3/0 hook and fry style bait.
These are the two methods I use. Carolina keeper method lets you adjust the length of your leader easily.
See you on the lake and have a great day!

#1 way to catch huge bass on a carolina rig is put a live bluegill, gizzard shad or water dog on the end of it.

No mystery here but when I use a light C-Rig, I rig the worms like this when fishing around rock piles, road beds, or rip rap. Good for short strikers too.
