Hello Everyone, this is an invitation to come join me at the Dallas Fly Fisher’s meeting Monday, July 12, for a fly casting discussion at 7:00 pm.
I will talk about several casting techniques that I find very useful when fishing. There are some fishing situations where making a straight cast may not be as effective as doing something different. There are some extremely effective casting techniques for these situations, but we never seem to find time to discuss them and they are rarely taught. So, we're going to talk about some these casts including how to make them and when to use them. The presentation will be appropriate for all skill levels and will include tips for both trout and warm water fishing. This part of the meeting will begin at 7:00 pm.
At 5:00 pm, we will return to hosting pre-meeting fly tying presentations. This month, I plan to stay with the "effective when fishing" theme and I will discuss using spinning blades on bass flies. Obviously, this will not be a traditional fly tying discussion, but Texas bass are not the same as fishing for Rocky Mountain trout. I've been adding blades to bass flies for almost 20 years and I will discuss and demonstrate some of the things I've learned.
Please note: The DFF is moving to a new location for the July meeting!
The July meeting will be held at the "Embassy Suites by Hilton Dallas Park Central", 13131 North Central Expressway, Dallas, Texas 75243.
This hotel is located across Hwy 75 from Texas Instruments near the NW corner of 75 and 635. This hotel is located within spitting distance of our prior meeting location.
We will continue to host a ZOOM version of this month's meeting. However, I'll be honest with you, a ZOOM session on casting is going to be a challenge. I'm not very good at staying on one place when talking. Please come join us in person if you are comfortable doing so and are able, because I think it will be way more enjoyable.
So, who's doing this month's presentation? I am a FFI certified casting instructor, I have been on TFO Rod's pro staff for 15 years, and I am DFF's casting coordinator. I also spend more time chasing bass with a fly rod than trout, but I love doing both.
Come join us on July 12! It will be fun to see everyone in person again.
Thank you,
Rex
