Would appreciate any resort recommendations, as well as over all experience, safety etc.?
Thanks in advance!

I spent 2, 3 week stays there while working. Not a place I would want to vacation as there are better places. Stayed in San Juan, working in Cayey on the 1st trip. 2nd trip stayed & worked in Mayaguez, near the University. Highways are crowded, 3 lane HWY turns into 5-6 lanes during rush hour. Did some nice snorkeling, went to Arecibo, ate at some nice restaurants. Had no time to go fishing, scenery is nice.
Reality. What a concept!

I lived and worked for a high end hotel developer in the US Virgin Islands and spent a lot of time in Puerto Rico. I can't recommend Dorado Beach Resort enough. Beautiful beach, well maintained property, deluxe food and drink, and securely protected no matter where you go. Dorado Beach Resort

There's good peacock bass fishing in Puerto Rico. The resorts aren't as fancy as they are in parts of Mexico; but the people are generally friendlier.

I've always like the west side of the island. Cabo Rojo is probably my favorite.
I recommend traveling the entire island.
The Waldorf Astoria in Fajardo is nice and Luquillo is right there.
Guanica 1929 is another neat hotel.
The people are amazing.
I'd move there in a heartbeat

Look at Cancun area Playa Mujeres or Play Del Carma region, some really nice all inclusive hotels Coming from basura blanca such as yourself, that's probably a compliment. You're probably upset that they have laws protecting certain people, unlike the places that you enjoy visiting.

Was in San Juan for a year on business in the early 90's. It has been years, but there was definitely places in San Juan you did not want to go. But really enjoyed it there, me and my wife.

Went to San Juan and Culebra Island. I don’t have any hotel recs because we stayed at my uncles apartment in Condado beach. Culebra island was fantastic for a day trip. You can grab an island hopper plane for $75, or take a boat over there. We went tarpon fishing in the bay, used Puerto Rico Magic Tarpon guide service. They were great. My wife and I were walking around one night and came across a place that is a deli/ restaurant by day, and apparently a karaoke bar at night. An old man waved to us to come in, so we spent the next 4 hours drinking beer and hanging out with the locals. They were so much fun. I sang Freddy Fender’s “before the next teardrop falls”, including the Spanish part, which got me a standing ovation from 15 or so drunk locals. My wife was super impressed with me, which is to say, she was embarrassed at her drunk [censored] husband. Good times.
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

I'm adding that phrase to my Spanish cursing repertoire!

The El Conquistador just reopened. That place was always my favorite. The Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort is also very nice. Their golf course is excellent and is close to the rain forest. Nice private beach and their blackjack dealer helps you beat the house. If you do go, at least visit the Kioskos De Luquillo for dining. Some of the best local cuisine is served there.
He is truly a sick individual.
