July 4 weekend: Had 17 house guests, and a few wanted to fish. They wanted to go out Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and the lake was horrendous with continuous heavy boat wakes. I will not do that again - we'll go early AM or not at all. Over the past 15 years more and more boats that create the wakes for wakeboard riders have shown up on holiday weekends causing the continuous heavy wave action. But the guests did have fun and catch some fish. Biting fish are not everywhere - we had to search for them. Caught them on #4 and #2 Mepps. Here are some pictures. The pics with son and grandson were taken today - note calmer water:

Looks like a fun weekend with family. We were on CC as well but only went out early and late to miss the ruckus. We only managed a few but my son did get into a few good hybrids.
Appreciate all of your posts.

I tried to go out on the 4th. After 11:00 it was unbearable. Every hump had boats on it and fish we not bunched up. It was not easy.

Mr. Christian,

Thank you as always for your detailed reports!

Sounds like you had a great family filled weekend! I agree with you, the wake boats are something else, and getting worse. I know everyone has the right to the boat of choice, and sure they enjoy them, but sure makes the lake painful for everyone else...

I fished a few hours Sunday morning, and got out of their way.

Look forward to more of your reports, especially appreciate the north end (poor people's neighborhood LOL) reports.

Take care,
Ken

2014 Premier Alante 235 RF tritoon. Momma's boat. But I get to fish on her.

Thanks Dennis, I was having a challenging fishing weekend. I only really had any luck at Rockpile for the first few days. There was a large school of small fish there. On Monday I stopped at slide hump and about 50 yards north of the hump was a school of suspended fish in 40 feet of water. We finally caught quite a few larger whites.

Always great to make family memories. Great job putting them on fish Dennis at a very busy weekend.
PS: I only fish CC during the week and never on holidays. cheers

I used to fish CC fifteen years ago. Had a few buddies that lived on the lake and we knew it well.

Even back then, we wouldn’t go on any Summer holiday weekend.

To supplement Dennis’ report, we had hit and miss fishing all July 4th weekend. Sunday morning we drove probably 15 miles from the spillway to the 198 bridge looking for surfacing fish and found zip. Sunday afternoon in the boat chaos mess I got a hunch and decided to go north down by the 334 bridge and found SB galore in 13-17 feet of water. We had wake board boat rollers coming over the bow but managed to catch about 200 SB. they surfaced hot and heavy for an hour before sundown. We used a little of everything: Mepps, Roostertails, silver Tailhummers, Rapala stick bait, but we got to catching a fish every cast by casting (yes casting) Hellpet rigs and slowly retrieving them to imitate the trolling horizontal presentation. During the surfacing the silver glitter Tailhummer was automatic every cast.

Wife and I went out Sunday morning to sunken island at daylight and started catching fish as soon as I got there. Stayed until about 10:30 and ended with a 2 person limit of sandbass, 5 hybrids, and 1 catfish. Caught a lot more keeper smaller sandbass, but through them back. They started schooling for about 10 minutes or so. We were fishing in 8 to 10 ft. of water to start with and caught some at that depth and then moved to about 13 ft. and caught the rest. Never moved from sunken island. No need to. All caught on #4 silver Mepps casting it out and working it horizontally back to the boat

Great reports. Ya know there is a great hump way north of the 334 bridge out in the middle of the stumps. I'll bet the waves wouldn't be so bad there.

7/13/2021: Went on a scouting run from 4:20 PM to 7:30 PM. Checked Long Ridge, Long Ridge West and found nothing. Checked Midlake Hump and caught 2 good sandies but nothing after that. Checked Key Ranch Drop-off and found some in 15 fow. Caught 5 with #2 Mepps rig then went to check more spots. Nothing at Key Ranch North and 3-Jug Hump. Found some at Merimac in 18 fow and caught fish on #4 and #2 almost every cast until I got to 25. Last spot was Iron Wall Hump. At the shallowest spot (23 fow) in the middle of the hump I caught another 8 big sandies, 4 hybrids 20 to 22 inches long, and 2 cats.

Thanks for the report Dennis. I'm going to give it a try this weekend at sunken island again and try a couple of the other spots on the north end as well. Might try the one's you speak of on the north side of the 334 bridge.
