Does anyone know if you can put ceramic tile over an existing Formica countertop.

you have to use 40 grit to get the surface off, use a mastic type adhesive.

best tho to just start over with clean plywood/hardibacker, 1/4 the work vs sanding usually.

you can use a heat gun to loosen the contact cement and try to peel the formica, warm you can bend it and the glue should loosen.

6" drywall tool for a scraper

Thanks for the info hop. That’s pretty much what I was thinking as well. It would be impossible to take the top off without wrecking out the vanity. Think I’ll just screw some 1/4” dura rock on top and roll with it.
That’s a beautiful outdoor kitchen you built I followed your thread during the construction.

thanks.

yeah, vanity you got it figured out, I was thinking kitchen tops.

use a little polyurethane adhesive along with the screws, keeps it from possibly warping later.
