Does anyone know if you can put ceramic tile over an existing Formica countertop.

you have to use 40 grit to get the surface off, use a mastic type adhesive.

best tho to just start over with clean plywood/hardibacker, 1/4 the work vs sanding usually.

this was a granite top I just replaced here at the ranch, kitchen would be same construction.

you can use a heat gun to loosen the contact cement and try to peel the formica, warm you can bend it and the glue should loosen.

Thanks for the info hop. That’s pretty much what I was thinking as well. It would be impossible to take the top off without wrecking out the vanity. Think I’ll just screw some 1/4” dura rock on top and roll with it.
That’s a beautiful outdoor kitchen you built I followed your thread during the construction.

yeah, vanity you got it figured out, I was thinking kitchen tops.

use a little polyurethane adhesive along with the screws, keeps it from possibly warping later.
