Do you need a once every 6 months reel or are you a hardcore fisherman? even if you arent a hardcore fisherman...if youre on here I doubt you fish rarely enough that youd be cool with a disposable type reel. Youre gonna get complainers like me who say piscifun and kastking are trash after trying 3 out...even though i only paid for 1. Youre also gonna get guys saying its good for what it is. What it is....its a mass produced reel that lacks QC, and i doubt even the lovers can deny that. So you can get something decent that will last...but youre also pretty likely to get junk like I did...3 times. They arent as cheap as they used to be now that they are spending marketing money....so considering you can get a low end daiwa for the same price....id go another route beside piscifun. Also....i couldve sworn one of the guys that recently won was sponsored by these china brands....and it ended up that he wasnt using sponsor gear. Im probably wrong, but couldve sworn the guy was sponsored by either kastking or piscifun and wasnt using the gear

iBock and others: My Shimano Chronarch has suffered in the salt water. After numerous lubes and services, it works fine, but sounds like a 12-volt winch! Rather than spend $250+ for another Shimano to abuse, I ordered a Piscifun Phantom, on sale, for $60, mailed. I figured several weeks to come from China. I ordered it on Friday, and it came Monday! Shipped from Fort Worth. Amazing. This thing weighs almost nothing, being mostly graphite and carbon fiber. Workmanship is top-notch. I spooled it with 15 pound mono. Practice casts outside were pretty good. It has spool tension, magnetic, plus centrifugal braking. Free reel cover included(lame, but free). First fishing trip was very good. Just a little tweaking on the braking, and it was casting further than my Shimano. And quiet! Smooth. I was really impressed. After about 6 months, my Abu baitcaster was dying, so I ordered another Phantom. About $70 mailed. Again, quick delivery, quality reel. I've been using these long enough to find out whether they are gonna fall apart. They're not. I've caught some big Reds, Drum, and Gafftops on these. Makes me think that if Shimano didn't sponsor humpteen pro anglers, and numerous tournaments, their reels might cost 1/3 of what they get for them. My Piscifuns might fall apart tomorrow, but I've already gotten my money's worth. YMMV. IslandJim

I am a gear enthusiast but I am looking for a super cheap reel to throw in the truck as a last resort. I feel bad putting a expensive reel just to sit in the truck and mostly collect dust.

I decided to give the Kastking reels a try since Toyo Shimano is the guy behind them. So far these are incredibly good reels. I fish heavy grass and wear out reels. These have held up so far. Plus they have 9.1 gear ratios.

I have 2 pf1400 baitcasters, both work but I prefer my lews/abus. will sell both for 60.00 shipped or 50.00 picked up at fork. both have boxes etc and are spooled with 15# big game, currently have one on a mh rod.

I don't own any Piscifun reels, but I will point out that all the Lew's reels that I own are made in China too. It's sad that we can't buy new reels made in the USA, but that's the way it is. I have no complaints with my Lew's reels, but I'm not sure they are any better than other Chinese reels because of the name on the side.
If you really want an American made baitcaster you can still buy a Plueger for a reasonable price and they are precision made.

These things arent the worst thing ever....and honestly, if they had some QC i bet would be a real threat in quality to stuff like Lews, Quantum and those other consolidated brands reels. Im sure Lews uses slightly better hardware....but my biggest complaint in all the cheap china stuff i ran into I felt couldve been fixed or weeded out with some QC. when you see globs of lube...you really get the impression they are just pumping these things out and are in the black with how many stick, despite the bad ones. and havent heard much from it.....but I think sixgill had a USA made baitcaster in the works. Not sure how much to trust sixgill since they always seemed chinesey to me....but i appreciate the effort and if they dont totally suck and arent too bad a price might consider one.
