I've torn the repair out that the previous owner attempted. There was bondo applied all over the floor up to the lip on the cap which had cracked. My plan is to use non treated plywood coated in resin butted up to the lip of the cap and then another piece over the top of that covering the cap to the edges that would be glued or bonded to the 1st sheet. The cap has a slight radius to it and the measurement at the lip closest to the floor is 1/4 inch. I would use 3/8 inch leaving a minor gap where the cap meets the floor since the edge of the cap next to the sides is higher. Would 3/4 inch plywood be sufficient for the 2nd piece on top of the 3/8 inch? The floor would then receive a coat of gelcoat. After that either carpet or sea deck material or other alternate material would finish it out. Am I correct in this procedure? Any suggestions would be appreciated. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/07/full-112417-102045-img_3012.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/07/full-112417-102046-img_3013.jpg)

I would put two pieces of wood on top of that one 3/4 “ would be enough. If the wood I see in pictures is sound I would just lay glass over that.

I may not have advice or experience with this exact job, but I would point out that YouTube has video on any project you can imagine. A search for boat floor replacement should get you some solid advice and examples

That molding looks to be screwed down and if it is I would take the molding out and put a 1/2" or 3/4" sheet on top of old floor . Your cuts would not have to be exact that way and carpet before replacing molding will hide the cuts.

There is no wood, it's a composite construction hull. The brown material you see is a thin layer of fiberglass.

The molding screwed down is the lip of the entire upper hull cap.

I would rough it up with 80 grit sand paper get all loose and broken glass off floor and bottom trim area. Clean with Acetone, tape everything off then layup fiberglass and resin edges first I wouldn’t use any wood

James,
Are you stating that I need to fiberglass the entire floor including the area over the cap making it somewhat level? What you see in the pictures is a very thin layer of fiberglass on the floor covering the stringers.

Yes that little step around trim will never really be noticed after carpet is down do the outside edges first, as the resin takes off pretty fast. (Starts to gel) the more you mix up the faster it takes off.

You might check the Bass Boat Restoration forum on BBC. A lot of talented people and good advice. Good luck.

If it were me, no wood would be used unless it was 100 percent fiberglass sealed. it will eventually fail, and would be a PITA. But like a prev response commented, there are some really good YouTube videos for reference..

One thing I found out repairing fiberglass on an older skeeter is that the repair will not bond to gel coat. It sticks for a while, but always turns loose. You have to get down to actual fiberglass. The white you are seeing is gelcoat or paint. The easiest way I found to get through the gel was an 80 grit sanding wheel in a small grinder.
