Went to one of my favorite lakes and caught several sunfish and one bass. The sunfish were small except for this nice yellow breasted one that went 8 inches- a huge sunfish for me, though I know some people here catch bigger ones regularly. I release about 98% of the fish I catch, but I had never eaten a sunfish before so I kept this one. It tasted pretty good, but I do feel bad because it was a female and had some eggs. I would have thought they had already spawned? The lake didn't feel overly warm surprisingly, so maybe they haven't yet? I hooked one bass in the chin, the full moon is probably to blame for low bass numbers, at least that's my story.

Thanks Chuck. Is it unusual that it had eggs still, or do they always have some? They should have already laid them a while ago right?

A sunfish will usually spawn two to three times a year. Depending on the weather patterns you might get a rare fourth spawn. thumb
