 Onyx Life Jacket Deployed By Itself! Anyone had that problem?

Yesterday I was on the lake and took my lifejacket off and put on the deck of my boat, in the back and was fishing up front. All of the sudden we hear a noise, turn around to see the lifejacket deploying. It was not on or in water, just sitting there on the deck of the boat. I've had 2, never had one deploy. Wife and I never take ours off while on the water.

I did a couple of days ago. I wandered if it was from the heat? Mines was sitting on front seat of truck after a trip.

I had one deploy on its own in a rod locker a few years ago. Moisture and condensation will degrade the bobbin over time and cause it to self deploy. Its pretty much just a chunk of chalk in a plastic cup. Your supposed to replace it every 3 years.

Yep, in a rod locker just two weeks ago. It was about 3 years old and needed to be replaced soon anyway. Last time I wore it I checked and it was green. I wear it all day so I'm glad it deployed while in the rod locker. Easy $30 cartridge replacement.

Good to know. Mine is just almost 2 years old but I use it several times a week so maybe that is the issue. It scared the [censored] out of me though. Glad I was not wearing it.

Yes it happens often...I have two Oynx inflatables. Every year I change the cylinders and bobbin. It's a must in this humid state. If not, you get that lovely surprise.
First time it happened to me I wasn't around...I came back to the shop and my lid was lifted...looked inside to see my vest popped itself.
Second time, I was around and it scared the piss out of me and the HS anglers in the boat.
