Hello and Howdy All. First post. I'm visiting family next week in Red Oak and hope I can use my new 4 piece 3 wt on some small bass blue gill etc. I fished a bit in the hill country streams when they lived in Castroville but have yet to explore this area with a fly rod. Not looking for lunker Bass but just a few panfish would be awesome. My family doesn't fish (I fixed that wrt my offspring) so they are no help. I would appreciate any pointers.
Thanks
Jeff

Just doing a simple Google search shows Red Oak Municipal Lake, stocked with sunfish, largemouth bass, channel cat, etc. Also some other lakes or ponds in the general area.

Google is a good tool to use for searching water bodies to fish! thumb

Well, all righty then. My Google Fishfinder with the optional Fly-Selector via Amazon should arrive in Red Oak by the time I land at DFW. With it, I’ll go exploring.

There is a COE park on Bardwell that has some public access. The ramps on Hachie have some open access as well.

The west end of Lake Waxahachie is fed by South Prong Creek. It passes under I-35 and Hwy 77 bridges. There's ample parking and creek access. I looked at it, but never fished it, but lots of people do. If you don't have a boat, the rest of the lake is almost inaccessible. If you could get to the railroad trestle, there's probably good fishing there, but I suspect you'll see lots of Private Property signs. Good luck. IslandJim

The creeks have been high, muddy, and a little scary for this CA boy to wet ease in his sandals. But Pearson Park has let me try out my new 6.5’ 3 weight. Got a bunch of BG/ Sunfish. All on a wingless Irresistible. ( can’t post pictures but it happened. )
