This may come off as a dumb questions considering all the rods are from the same company, but are the Dobyns rods and actions the same across all series? I just got a Fury 703C. Seems more soft and less rigid for a medium heavy fast than I am used to. If I were to get the same medium heavy fast in the sierra or champion series, will they still have a similar feel? That being on the softer less rigid side (in my opinion). Or does the actions and powers vary enough from series to series that a medium heavy fast in the sierra or champion series would be different than the Fury series? Obviously as you go up the rods change, (weight, balance, etc) but specifically power and action is what i am talking about.

I feel the dobyns 3 is closer to a medium than a MH in the fury line
I am getting 2 of the Sierra in a 683 and 743 if they have them. Don't know yet what they feel like.

Very difficult to duplicate the exact action of a single model across all series because of the differences in material used between the different series. Typically, higher end series use a higher modulus carbon material that will recover faster, feel more crisp, rigid and sensitive. Lower end rods are going to use lower modulus material (higher resin content) which will generally feel a little spongier.

I have a few Sierras and I feel as if their MH is actually a Medium in other rods. They have more parabolic bend than my other MH’s

The Fury MH fishes like a M to me. Champ series is more in line with other rods I've fished.

I have found that most Dobyns rods have a very fast taper in the tip which results in more tip action versus other brands. I personally like this since it allows me to work a bait alittle more effectively. I feel that this tip action is perceived as a lose in power since it takes more of the rod to lock in to its final power. Once locked in I have not found Dobyns rods to be lacking in power although their upper lure ratings are optimistic.

I agree, and I have a bunch of Dobyns rods. They have very good tip action and load very well with plenty of backbone. You just have to choose the right one for the technique you are planning to fish.
I have from the Fury to the Xtacy. Mostly Champions and Sierra's. Great rods.

Couldn't agree more!!. I Loomis, St Croix and 13 Fishing it, since not all brands have it all.

Dobyns rates their rods from 1 to 6 1= Light 2= Medium Light 3 = Medium 4= Medium Heavy 5= Heavy 6 = Extra Heavy, The tip is probably what you are sensing as less rigid as the 3 is usually a moderate fast (slower recovery). Are they the same across all series? I don't believe so, I have used Colt, Fury, Sierra, Savy, Kaden, Champion, and Champion Extreme and have found that the Fury , Kaden, and Champion Extreme are more rigid than the Colt, Sierra, or Champion. I prefer the Champ Extreme 744 for a Texas rig Rod using a weight heavier than 3/8, and a 745 for Jigs. If I was going to use a Champion for a Texas rig I would probably move to the 5 power rod like 735 for heavier weights and 734 for lighter weights.. If you are just looking for an all around utility rod then try the 734 in any series except the Extremes those start with a 743. Well that is my opinion and it is worth exactly what you paid for it. HA.

I think Jody's number scale is pretty accurate, but its not what resellers like Tackle Warehouse display. I just looked up an old TW order where it had a 734 Champion XP Heavy as the description. I was trying to use that rod as a Texas rig rod and really didn't like it for that purpose. Was like a lighter medium heavy for sure...missed a lot of fish. I have a 733 Fury that I only occasionally use for lighter moving baits, not enough backbone to drive a non-exposed hook. Just IMHO. Like my other Dobyns rods a lot.
