Z, the cline was gone on an afternoon trip earlier this week. I think the wind being up helps reduce or eliminate it. Hoping that is the case this weekend. Good luck y'all I hope everybody does well out there on the water tomorrow and Sunday!

The thermocline is ever changing. Wind plays a big part but I fished the rollers 2 weeks ago and there was a aThermocline in 30 ft. When they open the floodgates it seems to eliminate a lot of it and they’ve been opening ours a lot and my lake didn’t have much of one last weekend. It’s at different depths depending on what part of the lake your in. You can use that thermocline to your advantage Z. Find it and then move to that depth. In June and up until mid July I eliminate everything deeper than the thermocline. I Look for structure that pops up just above the Thermocline and the fish are usually there. Points, humps, and ledges will usually produce through mid July. I do fish suspended over the Thermocline occasionally in August but right now I move out of it.

Highest I've ever seen it on Eagle Mountain today. It was at 20 feet. Hoping it will settle some as the summer dredges on. It's typically at 23 to 25 feet there. I can always go fish Lake Worth, too shallow for thermocline, for the most part. Or, Benbrook, where they have aerators. Tried moving to areas only 18-20 foot deep, and the density of fish, just isn't there yet. Caught a lot of fish, just nothing really note worthy.

Chris you are spot on about the wind. Last weekend with almost no wind the thermocline was set in hard. Yesterday with the wind blowing pretty good, there was no thermocline at all.

I was fighting a 25 mph header Friday on my billboard sign (pontoon boat) at Eagle Mountain. Thermocline was at a solid 20 foot everywhere. Think I'm gonna try Benbrook this weekend, or maybe Monday. Calling for 5 to 10, which means 15 on the water. But, no thermocline.

Whitney is not immune to a Thermocline Z. I can tell you with full confidence and 100% certainty that Whitney also gets a Thermocline. It’s a deeper lake so the thermocline is usually deeper as well. There is no way to predict what depth it’s going to be on any given day but it varies depending on what part of the lake your in. Last time we Striper fished Whitney the thermocline was out in 40 ft. It is here every summer and is just something we gotta deal with in Texas. It certainly doesn’t stop us from catching fish.

Agreed, it can be a tool to help you catch fish, it eliminates some water, or at least some depths, meaning you have less fishable water. so catchable fish are easier to find. I like the idea of the cline just above the bottom so the fish push bait down below it and then attach from above. This really makes sense to me as a strategy. I'm looking forward to testing it this weekend.

Whitney? I'm going to Benbrook. No thermocline there, massively aerated. Probably gonna fish those aerators too.

Sorry Z but my buddy Rick aka Optimus Prime just told me Benbrook also gets a Thermocline. I had to ask him since he is the King of Benbrook and is the current Bluecat record holder for that lake.

Hasn't had one in the last 2 years, and when I asked why, the TPWD , and a couple guides, told me because it has too much aeration to develop one. I've caught blues in 50 foot of water, in August on that lake, and it's only 53 or 54 foot deep, at the deepest points, in Summer.

I smell something funny in here. You asked the guys from TP&w? Who? You asked a couple of guides? Who? When I hear someone say that I can’t help but think they are blowing some smoke. I talked to the King of that lake personally, he owns both Bluecat records, and who is also one of the better Trophy Catrs on this forum. If Prime says Benbrook gets a Thermocline then you can bet the house it does. The Mighty Azul has spoken but some choose to not listen. You can believe whatever you want Z . Here are Ricks records for both him and his son to show you I don’t blow smoke when I give guys fishing info. Pretty certain the guy knows what he’s talking about since it’s his lake and he’s the best angler on it.

Rick won't fib, or pull your leg about it. He's about as up front as they come when you ask him something about fishing.
I caught 12 eaters, blues and channels on Whitney Saturday morning. All were power pole fish if that tells ya anything. No Thermocline where I was...lol
