I am thinking about checking out the Colorado River around Bastrop. Can anyone tell me what species are present and how the fishing is around Bastrop\Smithville?

All species are in the Colorado. The water quality goes down quickly the further downstream you get from Longhorn Dam in Austin. If you want to bass fish I would encourage you put in further upstream below Austin or Webberville.
