Some records come easy and some are hard. After trying to catch a spotted bass, Plnor fishing without a reel for over 2 years, I finally landed one. It was unimpressive for the average bass angler, but was the last black bass state record I needed to complete my state record list for five Texas black bass (largemouth bass, spotted bass, Alabama Bass, Guadalupe bass, and smallmouth bass). it will also probably be my last pole and line state record, since TPWD is planning to remove the "Other Methods" state record category.

The fish hit an earthworm on a 2-hook rig down about 15 feet. The fight was unspectacular, but put a big smile on my face.

No more, unless it is the All-tackle record. From the TPWD website: Any application received after June 1 will now be considered for the State Record All-Tackle category. The other methods category is gone as of June 1.

So what kinda record is it?

It is the Other Methods Unrestricted State Record. The TPWD is still behind in issuing certificates. I caught the fish in October 2020 before the TPWD started the transition to an All-tackle category.
