This is only the tip of the iceberg.
SCOTUS has put the NCAA on notice that if they don’t loosen the purse strings, more antitrust charges will be brought and upheld by the courts.
It’s about time that the athletes, who make it possible for the NCAA to earn over $1bn a year, get to share in the wealth
NCAA salaries are obscene: $4 million a year for the president, $5 million a year for some conference commissioners and annual salaries for some football coaches that approach $11 million.

I was listening to a debate about this yesterday on sports talk radio. Will there be such a thing as a "student athlete" going forward?

I was listening to a debate about his yesterday on sports talk radio. Will there be such a thing as a "student athlete" going forward? um no...once they are paid, they are professionals... they should just end all of this TV contracts and [censored].. and get back to the fundamentals of of education.... we have been doing it their way.. millions and billions on football and basketball... and its only caused this as an outcome.. or simply change the rule that a football player has to be spend two years in college... (or I think that is the rule) just let them go straight to NFL... if they need to be paid millions as 18 year old.. another reason not to watch these sports... the greed is out of control... Mo

Love it, call it what it is and act right, the NCAA has needed to get their cage rattled for a long long time.

Well when schools start dropping teams the "student athletes" might start singing a different tune... Dan

If they are going to allow them to be paid then they should eliminate scholarships. Scholarships ARE NOT a free education, they simply add the cost of the scholarships onto the price of tuition for other students. Why should a math or history major be expected to pay more for their tuition to benefit an athlete that is going to be paid anyways?

Kind of surprising to me that so many on here are for more governmental controls rather than letting a private business, which institutions and individuals agree to join, set their own rules. I don't care one way or another, just surprising.

If that's what they want to do then I sure hope all collages drop scholarships, charge each person the same as anyone else. Charge them for the food they eat, charge them for the cleats, and other items other than the uniforms. Charge them for the doctors, the team facilities with whirlpools, with message therapist. Charge them for the special team housing they get. By all means make sure they go to class and make certain grades to stay on the team. Have them declare their major and not take water coloring, crayon drawing classes, take the required courses. ( Maybe make them take English and basic reading classes, they need that.) Then what will happen is the two or three on each team might get some type of sponsorship or money from outside sources but the other 78 or so teammates get nothing but the very high cost of going to collage. But then, what will happen is collage sports will become almost non-existent and then those that are good enough will go straight from High School to the pro's and that will not be a pretty sight. they will have to compete against grown men. To me and in my opinion that's all fine, I have pretty much stopped watching sports now since they have decided to be a political spokesperson more than a sports player. I think we need to rid ourselves of every pro sports league and start all over and get people who wants to play the sport because they love the game, not to be able to push their political agenda down everyone throat. Let them go out and try to make it on their intelligence and work in the real world. I'm sure they will not be making 20+ million a year for playing a game 6 months out of the year. Work 52 weeks out of the year and make...let's see most can't read or write...so....yea, they will be on welfare.

If they are going to allow them to be paid then they should eliminate scholarships. ^^^This. Why should they drop scholarships? Should your employer drop your 401k because you get a paycheck? It just another component of the compensation package.

It just another component of the compensation package. I'll go along with giving them that then...$5 a year. Everything else you will have to earn on your behalf. That makes more sense because that will tie that player up and and have them go through legal avenues to go elsewhere.
