Two questions.............How many poles can I have out in a big lake like Grapevine or Lake Texoma?

Also.....Do I need to give my social security number when buying a Texas fishing license.

I ask because...........I get different answers from people and also from TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE.

Thanks, Chuck

More poles than you can fit on a boat. 100 hook max, for all methods you are actively fishing. That includes, rod and reel, jugs, limb lines, and trotlines.

Texoma has its own set of rules. Game wardens don’t play around up there either.

There is a fine line between fishing and floating around like an idiot!!

In Texas, you are allowed up to 100 hooks per person per fishing license. And you are allowed only one fishing license per person. Now if you were to get a a freshwater license, and decided in the next year, you also wanted to do some salt water fishing, you would have to look at the rules online or talk to your local Game Warden.

I recall long ago, one friend got a regular fishing license. Then he decided to become a commercial fisherman. So he got the second license for that, depending upon which way he was fishing. I don't think you can do that nowadays though. I do not even know if it was legal back then.

Now, on different lakes, or different other body of waters, there may be a few different rules. Such as no set lines-- trotlines, throwlines, juglines, or single set hooks. Fishing might be limited to pole & line, which is by Rod-N-Reel or an actual pole (stick of some kind) & line. Or there may be certain restrictions on amounts or sizes (lengths or such), as to fish (each species) . So you would have to check the rules again, as to the body of water you are planning to fish.

If you put a double leader on a R-n-R or cane & pole, and have two hooks on it, then that is 2 of your 100 hooks

If you have questions, you can look up a Game Warden over a particular body of water online at the TP&W website. Then touch base with them, either by phone or email (if one is noted). Certain Game Wardens are assigned to bodies of waters, and therefore they would know more as to the laws (new or old) for that particular body of water. Remember, a Game Warden is the interpreter of the written laws.

As far as I know, it is only the TX DL which is required to get a license. But I do recall a SS# being involved somewhere along the line, but I forget what for.

This. When I lived in Texas years go. I was told if you owed back child support, you could not get a hunting or fishing license.

Never been asked for my SS# for a fishing license. Just DL #. But I haven't tried to buy one online.

Online they ask for it because of identity purposes. In person it’s only a drivers license because you are face to face and they can verify it’s the person on the license.
