Stopped into a restaurant for lunch today I frequently visit and the menu was on a plain paper instead of their regular menu. All of their prices have increased I would say around 20%, and their steaks were around a 40% increase. I read a line at the bottom with an asterisk to make it noticeable. What’s the name of the place and where is it located?

I will not name the restaurant out of just respect…but it is in Pell City, Al., it is a long standing established restaurant too. I know of one other place in Talladega again not naming the name but a BBQ place which one of my employees told me that has raised their prices a good bit in the last week. I’ve not been there in a good while but he said he will no longer eat at that place also. It’s coming to your hometown also, it has to, you can’t raised people pay across the board and not have it hit your bottom line. Some of the restaurants are having a hard enough time making ends meet because of all the shutdowns this past year and a half. Now, it seems it’s super hard to find anyone to work and if you do it has to be more than they are getting sitting at home doing nothing. I know in Alabama the cost of living is not near as high as many other places, but to get anyone to work here just flipping hamburgers the signs around here will start you out at $15+ an hour. Yet….they still can’t find people to fill those positions. It might take a job paying around the $20 range to make them get off their sofa to go work and then again that might not even be enough until the government stops sending them checks and giving them everything free along the way. Again, here in Alabama the cost of living is or was pretty good. A person making $12 an hour here was living the good life and enjoying a pretty good way of living.

If I were king, tipping would no longer be necessary in America. Restaurant staff would be paid a normal wage and the price on the menu would be the price you pay, no mandatory tips, dine in fees, or additional taxes. "If I were KIng" that's one of my favorite sayings. That always prefaces some long dissertation on whatever I see as problems facing a civil society.

I am king when eating out, if you cannot fill my water or tea I no longer tip. Menu prices are crazy

They are out of their mind. And they will probably be out of business soon. And $15 for fast food?! Ha! Good reason to stop eating that [censored].

The local restaurants are paying $10-$14 to start and still can't find workers. All part of the government plan to raise minimum wage.

Food prices, utilities, insurance, fuel to get the food to the establishment…everything has gotten larger. It’s called high inflation and America hasn’t seen it since the 80’s. In my area, uncle sugar also raised property taxes 20-34%. All this and more is being factored into everything we buy. It’ll be interesting to see what uncle sugar says CPI-W is at the end of this year. Everyone on social security will be affected. Seems like. I read about 5% from Jan to May.

Unfortunately, the genie may be out of the bottle. How do you undo someone's salary other than letting them go. It would be tough to hire one person for $15 an hour and then hire someone else and pay them less to do the same job.

The biggest item on most company's P&L is payroll costs. The first thing that will happen is that some folks will just lose their jobs or everyone with have their hours cut. The second thing will be to increase prices to the customer, and the end user - the American consumer - will be faced with the biggest inflation we have seen in many years. Hopefully, some items that aren't payroll (cost of goods such as beef, chicken, pork, etc.) will fall back a bit, but the bottom line is it's going to get more expensive to get by for the average Joe.
Family is everything! Life is precious. We don’t have forever. We have now. This moment. We can choose to love our lives now.

I can understand paying more in to get employees. Once they've upped the pay it will be hard to go back and tell them that they have to reduce their pay to survive. The current govt subsidies are set to expire in September. States that have not quit taking them are going to be hurt long term. This was a backdoor way to increase the minimum wage. Once given its impossible to take back.

A lot of people have left the restaurant industry because of health reasons, poor working conditions, low pay, shaky ownership, etc., and have found better paying, more stable jobs in other industries. They aren’t coming back no matter what. Savvy business owners will find ways to succeed and the dumb ones will fail. Survival of the fittest.
Nationwide, over 80,000 restaurants have permanently closed. Like every other economic crisis, the poorly run businesses don’t recover.
Also, many areas like Dallas are over saturated with bars and restaurants. There was a slew of these places that were already in trouble pre-pandemic

Poor people are easier to manipulate and control. Prices go up on everything, people start running out of money. No more shining example of that that Joe's favorite nation China
