I had high hopes for this weekend, I thought my favorite lake might not be too affected by a week of 90 degree weather. I was very wrong, fishing was terrible. I saw plenty of fish jumping in the morning, but they wouldn't touch my lures. At least some of them were carp which would explain that. Anyways I spent 7 hours on the water and only caught one catfish that I caught on a lure right near the shore. I lost 3 lures and a cheap pole and reel that got pulled out of my kayak after getting snagged. The only good thing about the day was swimming was great, the water felt just a tiny bit cool, really refreshing. I'm guessing it's around 83 degrees. I saw a few dead fish floating that looked like white bass, I guess they don't like the heat either.

Fishing after the heatwave, that's in November or mid-October if we are lucky!

Last time out I caught a catfish on a buzz bait, so don't feel bad.

Lol, it’s not the heat. This is Texas man, we typically have 2-3 weeks over 100 degrees every year. Try a better lure, instead of that Walmart special.

16 to 20 feet that's because of the heat. I don't have a depthfinder so it's not going to be practical for me to fish there again until the fall.

Carl, go buy a pack of zoom watermelon worms, a pack of 3/16oz sinkers and a pack of 3/0 hooks. You’ll catch more fish than you have ever caught or get yourself a ned rig, it works good at Medina too.

Thanks for another great report. I've had a few trips like that where my only fish was a catfish. Last time I saw a bright orange Mepps spinner was salmon fishing in Alaska. If you want to fish cheap and lose fewer lures. I would suggest 1/16 ounce jig heads and a pack of curly tail grubs. Apply some Baitmate or Yum shad scent. Roadrunners and roostertail spinners are also great all around lures. River fishing can be really good during the heat of summer, when the water gets low slow and clean.

Carl - you don't have to be a millionaire to have a dang GPS/fishfinder. You can get a brand new 4" Lowrance color GPS/fish finder for $125 on Ebay.

It wouldn't be easy to use one with my inflatable. I could get one of those glue on bases, then a mount but I'm nervous that it would fall off.
