I have a half ton gasser I’m looking to get out of and back into a 1 ton, with the crazy auto prices currently I could probably get pretty close to what I paid for the gasser by selling it off right now.. I’m not currently ready to pull the trigger on a new 1 ton with the market so crazy right now, So I have a questions for you guys actually in the auto industry or know a little better than I do about it,

1) is there any end in sight on the current inflation of the market?

2) sell the gasser now or hold on to it a few months..

3) do you think it’s gonna be a long shot to sell the half ton and sit on my hands for a few months hoping the industry calms down a little?

I know I’m looking to cheat the system a little, but I currently have two pickups and would like to just get back into one I really want..

Need some of that OT wisdom!
Thanks

If you can wait for a year or two then sell yours now for the max price.

Then wait a year or so (?) and buy when the market gets back to normal!

Profit! cheers

Since you have 2 then you already know the answer. thumb

Sell now and buy in a couple years. I doubt market will drop much in the next 2-3 months.

I operate on the sell high, buy low principle. It has served me well.

Your best bet is to sell now. If you can wait on one ton purchase, most definitely do so. I will say things will be back to normal in one year's time.

My best friend owns a Ford dealership and I have a 22 model 250 KR on order and he said is be lucky if I get it within a year. Wish I hadn’t smoked my 20 model last month because I can’t replace it.

Why not go into a couple dealerships that have a truck you're interested in and see what they will do?

Our local Ford dealer just got a F350 XLT SuperCrew DWR in the other day.

It was the first new one they have gotten in the last several months. hammer

Prices will plateau, but they won't go down.

This. And the days of rebates and discounts on new (trucks and sun's) are gone in my opinion. They will give a Honda away still, but not a FORD/RAM/CHEVY truck ever again.

I can understand that prices on new trucks will plateau, like taxes, once they go up they never come back down. But what about the surplus of inventory that will come once the chip debacle is resolved? Are car manufactures curbing their production or producing as usual? If they are not curbing, they will have to sell the 2020,2021 to make room for the 2022s right? I would think there will be some kind of surplus in supply at some point in the future.

I had read somewhere that GM is still making cars and trucks just that some of them may have a feature that won't work because they don't have the chips or whatever for all the features. Like GM trucks won't have cylinder deactivation or whatever they call it. That they will let you know when they will be able to complete it and you can have it done for free is you want it.

There is no surplus of inventory currently, nor will there be anywhere in the near future. There is a buildup of in-process vehicle frames that already have demand. And it is not only the chips that are slowing down production, it is just the one component that got singled out in the news. Steel coil and plate, and many other parts and materials have supply problems right now.

As these supply issues are addressed, there will be a flurry of new sales to the buyers that are stacking up right now. After that first wave is passed, the normal manufacturing process will establish itself at a pace which meets market demand. Just like it always does. But moving forward, the input pricing of steel and other raw materials will be higher, as will the pricing expectations of those buying new vehicles. Hence prices will remain at their current level of 15-25% higher than a year ago.

Some of the first ordered 22's have a production week of 7/19.
