I noticed today I have these small piles of dust around my fireplace. It’s coming out of the mortar it appears. Does anyone have a clue what this is? I am posting like four different spots and that’s about half of them.

That appears to be effloresence. Water can wick through your masonry picking up the minerals in the mortar and sometimes the brick and then show up as the white powder, i.e. the minerals picked up. If it is at your fireplace on the inside then the bigger issue is where is the water coming from. You may have a roof leak that you are unaware of.

That would be my guess too. I see it a lot on pool tiles, but with pools it's obvious how the groundwater can get to them. I would be looking for your water source for sure.

This was my thought that it may be water related but I see no evidence of any kind of water buildup. Obviously it’s been raining for a while. If I could find water I would feel a little better but I see no evidence of water.

Do I call a roofer? Not sure of my next move.

It’s either efflorescence or Tony Montana moved his headquarters to your living room.

I think I have Efflorescence from my research. Has to do with moisture. Can be cleaned up.

Is your chimney capped or open ? I've had water in my fireplace after a monsoon .
