Not really looking forward to it. I have repair estimates so I hope to get value changed based on that. I am also protesting on land value. I can't wait to hear their explanation on why neighbors 1.8 acres versus my 1.1 is valued $18k lower then mine.

Go in there carrying an overflowing diaper bag back pack while pushing a double stroller with two infants in the stroller.
Say your wife is likely pregnant with another baby.

Upon arrival, demand that they show you their vac passports.

I ask them to write me a check for their appraisal price and I'd be moved out in 3 days.

Don't think they appreciated my attempt at humor.

Actually I think it would be ok to require the appraisal district to buy property at the appraised price but it would suggest that those protesting property evals should be willing to sell at that price. Most appraisals have increased very significantly during the last 3 years but probably most are still under the actual value. I don't think the appraisals are as much of a problem as the rates that entities apply which never go down to completely offset the increase in evaluation as they should.

The taxing entities are getting a windfall from higher appraisals. There is no incentive for them to control expenses. The legislature needs to fix this with legislation that actually has some teeth unlike the carp they passed a few years back.

+1 No question the tax rates should have been lowered to offset the higher appraisals. Our state government has completely failed on this issue.

Your local governments usually have control of local taxing entities. School boards, city councils, county commissioners, etc. They are responsible for the rates. Remember how we always say local governments are more responsible, so keep it local?

The government wants your money. Every level does.

This is the way they can get more more more of it and still be able to say they never raised taxes.

Iā€™d almost rather have an income tax instead of property taxes.

I got a reduction based on repairs but they would not budge on land value. Neighbors protested land last year and won so they are frozen for 2 years. Not sure what they based protest on because I also protested and lost. My argument that their .7 acres makes their land worth more then mine did not work. I could have appealed but decided to take my reduction and not chance it.

I got all redneck last time, showed my inner white trash. Asked the board if any of them wanted to buy the mfrs for that price. It didnt seem to help.

I have done both. I'll take the income tax option every time.
