Actually I think it would be ok to require the appraisal district to buy property at the appraised price but it would suggest that those protesting property evals should be willing to sell at that price. Most appraisals have increased very significantly during the last 3 years but probably most are still under the actual value. I don't think the appraisals are as much of a problem as the rates that entities apply which never go down to completely offset the increase in evaluation as they should.

The taxing entities are getting a windfall from higher appraisals. There is no incentive for them to control expenses. The legislature needs to fix this with legislation that actually has some teeth unlike the carp they passed a few years back.

I ask them to write me a check for their appraisal price and I'd be moved out in 3 days.

Don't think they appreciated my attempt at humor.

I got a reduction based on repairs but they would not budge on land value. Neighbors protested land last year and won so they are frozen for 2 years. Not sure what they based protest on because I also protested and lost. My argument that their .7 acres makes their land worth more then mine did not work. I could have appealed but decided to take my reduction and not chance it.

I’d almost rather have an income tax instead of property taxes.
