I need a couple of secondary depth finders. Just something to tell me the depth, can see a brush pile if I go over one.

The 480 X 480 screen was ok for what I need so the screen size isn’t too important, 9” would be good.

I know that models 2 years old have really gone down in price, looking for a good deal. But also units that will perform good.

I like Lowrance.

Price range $400-$500 per unit.

Elite or HDS . Definitely 2 D if you just need it for depth and want to run faster. If puttin around searching- definitely want DI and or SI.

I'd look at the Lawrance Elite Ti2 if you want to network them. They network with Bluetooth. Or the Hook series if you don't need to network them.

I think I’m going to go with the Humminbird Helix 7 Chirp Mega SI MDI GPS Gen 3.

If anyone has anything bad to say about this one, let me know before I buy it???

You’ll do great with that unit. I just put that on my new kayak. Does a great job. Very clear and detailed. I had the same unit 3 years ago, but in the 9” model. It was great, so I got the 7” when I got my new Yak.

They work good, just too small for me, with multiple screens running. If you can dedicate it to just SI or DI, then no biggie.

Not sure it matters but this unit may not be networkable if it doesn't have an "N" in the model name. It won't work with Mega 360 imaging and it won't work with the new Mega Live if you think you may add stuff down the road.

Also, budget $100 extra for a map card if you want detailed maps (not included).

IF ALL you need is depth and brush pile images as you said in the OP, this will do that and more!

I have learned you have to buy the depth finder covers separately.

That kinda sucks, in the past it was part of the package.

I have that exact unit........still learning it but I love it so far. Spend the extra $125 on the Lakemaster SD card, well worth it IMO.I've done very little side imaging, still not sold on it
