That's what you are paying nowadays for a new vehicle. Or maybe it just applies to me idk.

My little CDJR dealer in AR, owner said all vehicles go out at list price. Their inventory is strained like everyone else's and so what they do sell they are deciding to sell at list. And people are buying. In spite of me getting ready to buy my 6th new vehicle from them - I don't carry any weight.

I didn't expect a big discount anyways on a new order vehicle, however. But thought $500 off would have been a nice gesture. We've been toying with a new vehicle for the misses and the new Grand Cherokee XL with the 3rd seat finally has us pulling the trigger. No word on when to expect it but I'm not anticipating it before end of September (if we are lucky).

I drove past two Chevrolet dealers recently that looked like they had no vehicles for sale. Terrible time to be buying new.

They will take what they will get. With no or little inventory and people willing to pay MSRP, the dealers will not bargain. You might get them to throw in free oil changes for a year or two, but doubt many are running any discounts these days. They don't even have enough inventory to run the clear the lot for next year models this summer. Last time I bought I ordered a truck from the factory built the way I wanted. Made a nice deal on it since the dealership only had to do the paperwork and so forth. With the semiconductor shortage even ordering a vehicle would almost be out of the question to get one anytime soon.

Our town it looks like the cars lots have been abandoned because of the lack of inventory.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

IDK about a discount but I would insist on an extended warranty, set of mechanics tools and a Haynes Repair Manual.

You will need them all.

MSRP is the current normal with some even marking up over MSRP. Supply/Demand.

My son recently traded his Tundra on a new Ram Rebel. He had to drive three hours to find one in stock. The price was MSRP but they gave him what he paid for his truck a couple years ago on trade value. I told him this was a TERRIBLE time to buy a vehicle. But, he is young and makes fantastic money so he bought what he wanted.

His truck has been in the shop twice for warranty issues in the two months he's owned it.

Halfway thinking to trade my wife's suburban in on a new Yukon XL. It'd be pretty much an even swap. Crazy times for sure. We'd have to order the Yukon, there's nothing available.

Went to the local ford dealer last month and they would only move off the sticker price by $2k. They said they were not getting the inventory from ford. I left without buying. I check around and ford better prices in Houston but I think I'll wait.

I'm currently trying to buy a new Telluride. What a chore so far! Working with four other Kia dealers. Every one of them has a different process; order and wait for 3-5 months for delivery and you pay MSRP, they'll do a locate and we will pay $7500 over MSRP, quicker they can find one it could be $10,000 markup over MSRP, etc. They have my head spinning. We got an appraised value from a Honda dealership this weekend of about the same price I purchased my 2020 Explorer ST for back in Jan 2020. People are saying that if I sell it third party, I should ask $3K-$5K over what I paid. Wife really wants a Telluride but I may have to say no. It is absolutely crazy out there in the buying and selling world of vehicles right now.

In my experience free oil changes from a dealer are worthless because you are just taking a chance on them screwing something up. I have wondered about the GM commercials I have seen lately advertising discounts off MSRP. They are not what they were a year ago but 1/2 or better. Their will be a correction at some point and a whole lot of folks under water.

I remember back in the day, a guy who worked for me in Houston paid $500 over MSRP for a brand new, first year PT Cruiser. He had the only one on his block for 6 months. After a year they were selling for $3-4k under MSRP. I decided I would never pay even close to MSRP for a new car because the market changes so quickly. If and when they resolve this chip issue, there may be a glut of cars on dealer lots. We will see.

Yeah it's crazy. I've got a loaded out Ram diesel with 15K miles on it and got offered $10K more than I paid for it.
